It looks like there is someone running against Scott in the republican party, he's from Florida and has a good background in law enforcement. I think Scott has done a decent job, unlike a certain other public official he doesn't have to have a newspaper editor in his back pocket to cover up his wrongdoings. I'm interested in learning more about the candidate, hopefully he will post on this site and explain his ideas to us.

Sheriff Joe would be a good sheriff if there weren't so many questionable hospital visits and deaths in his little camp.

Ayone would be better than the one we have now. Apparently he never seen, will not make an appoinment with anyone who is trying to see him, or return phone calls. I have nick- named him the Phantom Sheriff. One thing he needs to remember is next year is an election year and I will not be casting my vote for him. You know the sad thing about it I don't believe he really cares.

There have been break ins all over the county. In broad daylight. Houses have been in subdivisions not isolated. You would think the NGN would have something in this week's paper warning people. Not so. I guess they don't print anything unless it is happy news. Well we don't live in a perfect place and all people here are not perfet. So give us the news and leave the politicing to the candidates.

In 1829 Sir Robert Peel set forth some principles for Police Departments. They are still true today:
POLICE MUST BE STABLE, EFFICIENT AND ORGANIZED AMONG MILITARY LINES
THE POLICE MUST BE UNDER GOVERNMENTAL CONTROL
THE ABSENCE OF CRIME WILL BEST PROVE THE EFFICENCY OF THE POLICE
THE DISTRIBUTION OF CRIME NEWS IS ESSENTIAL
THE DEPLOYMENT OF POLICE STRENGTH BY TIME AND AREA IS ESSENTIAL
NO QUALITY IS MORE INDISPENSABLE TO A POLICE OFFICER THAN A PERFECT COMMAND OF TEMPER
GOOD APPEARANCE COMMANDS RESPECT
THE SECURING AND TRAINING OF PERSONS IS AT THE ROOT OF EFFICIENCY
POLICE HEADQUARTERS SHOULD BE CENTRALLY LOCATED AND ACCESSIBLE
POLICE OFFICERS SHOULD BE HIRED ON A PROBATIONARY BASIS
POLICE RECORDS ARE NECESSARY TO THE BEST DISTRIBUTION OF POLICE STRENGTH
“THE PEOPLE ARE THE POLICE AND THE POLICE ARE THE PEOPLE”

Welcome to the board Spider.
Funny you should say that about the Sheriff. We have called and left messages for him and he has called us back. If he is in his office and not in the middle of something he always has time for a few words.
However, we aren't in his office everyday or calling him constantly, so maybe we aren't in the "know".
I will vote for him. At least we know what his faults are, a stranger you don't know anything about at all.

queenbee, maybe you are one of the special people in the county. It appears that maybe I am not but I thought the sheriff is elected to serve all the people all the time not just a chosen few.

queen, I have lived in this county for over ten years. I have only tried to contact the sheriff of this county, who just happens to be the current sheriff one time. So I am not one who runs to his office every week. I was there, asked by members of my neighborhood to address some concerns & problems in our neighborhood. He don't know if we were there to give him a big donation for his re-election or not. Guess he will never know.

I've never had any trouble with Scott personally and I've known him for a long time, but I have never once seen him in a car out on patrol or heard him call in anything on the scanner. He needs to be more visible to the public, and by that I don't mean having Norm to put his picture on the front page of the paper about a drug bust that he wasn't even involved in. All of our police officers are working for a pittance, they put their lives on the line for us for under $10 an hour. With Liemar supposedly spending most of our money on law enforcement you'd think they could get a decent raise and hire some more officers.

Its all about kickbacks ; if anybody wants anything from Liemar , first they have to let Liemar know what Liemar will get back for his pockets before Liemar will let any of your tax money go . Liemar is great . Run Liemar Run cause Eddie long legs is gonna get your lying back end .

Any new news on the republican running against scott? I wonder if someone else will jump into the race also. I know of one man who could more than likely beat scott if the decided to run, and he says that he is definitely not even considering it at this time.

Short C , I have met with Tom Jones several times and know him better than I know Scott . I know him to be honest , up front , and trustworthy . He does not drink , commit adultery , steal or lie . He is a good man who will do a good job for the people of Union County .

I like Scott also, he seems to be a very good sheriff that cares about his community. With all the drug arrest each week I read about in the paper I feel Scott is my candidate for sheriff in the next election. Thank you Scott for all you do keeping Union County citizens our family and our property safe. Keep up the good work!

Pugs, I am straddling the fence on the issue but I think I am with you. I don't think Scott has a big ego that stands in the way of him doing his job properly, he is always friendly when you talk to him and his deputies seem to support him. My only complaint about him is that you NEVER see him out in a patrol car or hear him on the scanner assisting the deputies with calls. If he wants to keep his job he is going to have to be more visible. Having Norman put his picture in the paper standing in front of a house that was raided for drugs that the UCSO didn't even participate in isn't gonna cut it. Like I said, I know of one man who could easily send Scott packing if he decided to run and he has said that right now he isn't interested in the job.
