Housing slump contributes to Home Depot's 27 percent profit drop in 4Q The Home Depot Inc. is reporting this morning that its fourth-quarter profit fell more than 27 percent. A dour housing market contributed to the first annual sales decline for the world's largest home improvement store chain, which is based in metro Atlanta. The results fell short of Wall Street expectations.

So how do we find out for sure if it is coming? Some reliable source has to know the facts. I am sure some official announcement will be made when Wal-mart and the powers to be in the county decide they have to let the people know what is happening.

Queenbee: Not sure what you are talking about. Do you not read the paper? The commissioner has periodically written in his columns in the paper about the progress of Wal-mart. In fact there is something in this weeks paper.
If you want to know the facts why do you not go to the source?

bluemoon, I posted a link to the article in the NGN in the Walmart thread... I think it was from a week or so ago. As far as the commissioner giving us the progress of Walmart, all I remember are some very vague statements about things are progressing.

From the county website, February 6 Q & A:
What is the latest on Wal-Mart? Are they coming? (This is the most often asked question I receive.) A. Everything is still progressing positively and we are getting closer to their reaching a final decision. The real estate closing for the property has been delayed yet again, but we should know something for sure within thirty to forty-five days whether this project is going to happen or whether the decision could be further delayed. Five more Wal-Mart projects in Georgia have been put on hold recently, but so far we are not on that list.
What else do you want him to say?

Well, if that is what is really happening, then there isn't any more to say, but like I said, all we hear officially is that it is progressing, which is just about what is on the county website. How about HOW it is progressing? What has been done? What is next on the agenda? Vague statements don't cut it... Don't get me wrong, I am for Wal*Mart coming to this county.

My paper doesn't come until Wednesday's.
I don't have a source to go to, cause no one can tell 100% "Yes, they are coming and will be here on such and such a date."
I don't read Lamar's column, to much smoke for me.
I try not to read Norm's column unless it has a catchy title.
I have heard Wal-Mart was coming for years, I don't jump every time I hear Wal-Mart.
Thanks BB for explaining it fo rme.

Hunny brought me a paper... according to Lamar, he wrote the article on the 21 and by the time we read it in the paper, it is supposedly a "done deal" or will be on the 29th...

So how do we find out for sure if it is coming? Some reliable source has to know the facts. We'll know it's coming when we see bulldozers out at the property working. The NGN is not a reliable source.

If they were giving odds on whether or not its coming I'd bet that its not. For the same reasons I keep hearing that Publix isn't coming. How smart would that be? I mean really? It would hurt Murphy by about 38% of their business.

Bubba the fishwrapper is where I got the 38% they figure they would lose by building one here. How smart would it be unless you were ok with closing down the murphy store. 38% would hurt to the point it would not be profitable.
Besides there are several of us that wouldn't shop there anyway. Since splosh, I ve been doing all my heavy grocery shopping etc. in Hiawassee.
