""I'm past it. That's all that matters to me. ""
Many people live with their head in the sand, one more don't matter to me.
""Paris has a record of moving forward. ""
The only forward motion Paris makes is putting the tax payer deeper in debt, he needs to be in Washington where the other socialists are.
As for the working class, I don't believe for a minute you speak for them. The working class here and elsewhere are worried about the next meal on the table for their kids, they are worried about the next mortgage payment or rent due. They are worried about job loss, if they haven't already lost their jobs like many in Union County.
Paris is the one who had better consider the ones who pay the tax burden; he has imposed on the people his wasteful spending and not accounting for splost funds, where did the money go?
In these times of financial uncertainty and at any other time, COOK is the better choice to run the County.
Paris is a BAD financial manager of county affairs.
If the private sector suffers, why should government not suffer along.
The problem with people like Paris and those who think like him is they think they are "Entitled" to gobbble up tax payer money to pay for their play toys and to support them in their playboy ways of living it up.
This commisar has been a detriment to Union County from the 1st 6 months in office when he basically said "to hell with the people, I'm gonna form my private corporation and NOT give the people a chance to vote in a referendum on spending their money. It's my money now and I'm gonna spend the excess any dang way I want to."
""when many are against you.""
Paris has treated many in the community with arrogance and have lost their vote and support; what did he expect, that people would kiss his rear end?
Paris has forgotten, or else he never knew, the government belongs to the people and he has treated the people shabbily and the people's money as if it grew on a tree.
Well, the money tree is dead and he killed it. It's time to chop up the tree for firewood and time to kick Paris out of office.

I would not wish even that on the commisar, only that the voters send him home in defeat.

The voters need to send Lamar home in defeat so the County can get a BETTER financial manager to handle the county affairs. And just maybe the NGN will get its comeuppance also.

THE COMMISAR AND HIS SUPPORTERS SAY PER CAPITA TAXES DO NOT REFLECT ACTUAL TAXES AND PARIS GOES ON TO SAY THE NUMBER REFLECTS BOTH LOCAL AND SCHOOLS. HE IS RIGHT, IT DOES REFLECT BOTH TAXING AUTHORITIES. SO LET'S SEE WHICH TAXING AUTHORITY HAS INCREASED TAXES THE MOST IN UNION COUNTY, LOCAL GOVERNMENT OR SCHOOLS. HERE ARE THE NUMBERS FOR YEAR 2000 AND YEAR 2005.
TAXES LEVIED PER PERSON-------COUNTY-------MILL RATE FROM 2000 REPORT $456.50-----------------------UNION---------13.6 TOTAL LOCAL AND SCHOOLS
TAXES LEVIED PER PERSON-------COUNTY--------MILL RATE FROM 2007 REPORT $855--------------------------UNION---------14.229 TOTAL LOCAL AND SCHOOLS
2000 TAXES LEVIED PER PERSON-------COUNTY-------MILL RATE FROM 2000 REPORT $456.50-----------------------UNION---------13.6 TOTAL MILLS $166------------County Government Only-----MILL RATE 4.8 $290.50---------COUNTY SCHOOLS ONLY--------MILL RATE 8.8
FOR YEAR 2000, SCHOOLS MADE UP 63.7% OF TOTAL PROPERTY TAXES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT MADE UP 36.3% OF TOTAL PROPERTY TAXES.
2005 TAXES LEVIED PER PERSON-------COUNTY--------MILL RATE FROM 2007 REPORT $855--------------------------UNION---------14.229 TOTAL MILLS $400--------------COUNTY GOVERNMENT ONLY----MILL RATE 6.65 $455--------------COUNTY SCHOOLS ONLY-------MILL RATE 7.759
FOR YEAR 2005 SCHOOLS MADE UP 53.3% OF TOTAL PROPERTY TAXES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT MADE UP 46.7% OF PROPERTY TAXES.
Anyone can see very easily that Local Government under PARIS has had an EXPLOSION in taxes and no NEW services to show for it. Anyone can see that TAXES PER CAPITA ARE A VERY RELIABLE INDICATOR of how much taxes are, and which authority is doing the taxing.

So all the statistics above come down to the following:::
The Local Government taxes per capita increased 141% under paris from 2000 to 2005.
The School Government taxes per capita increased 57% during the same time period from 2000 to 2005.
Now compare all the above counties with Union County.
While the School system did HAVE a huge tax increase of 52% in 2005, the average over the 5 year timeframe was 11.4%, which is acceptable and falls inline with most other government bodies.
The County under Paris during the same 5 year period averaged 28.2%, which IS NOT acceptable and is more than double most other government bodies.
THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF THE VALIDITY OF COMPARING PER CAPITA TAXES BETWEEN DIFFERENT TAXING AUTHORITIES OR DIFFERENT COUNTIES.
So the commisar is feeding everyone horse manure about per capita taxes not being valid.

A request was made to repost the millage charts, so here they are.
All the data below are new charts compiled to show county comparisons on LOCAL GOVERNMENT ONLY, NOT SCHOOLS.
There are 3 different charts with 3 different ways to compare the data.
First chart is to show local government only mill rate year to year during Paris' time in office. Second chart is to show differences of taxes per capita levied and percentage increase from 2000 to 2005 for each county listed. Third chart reflects same data as chart 2 in a diferent format.
CHART #1 Comparison of Millage Rates of Area Counties (does not include school milL rate)

Union County under Paris has outstriped most of the other counties by as much as 121%, so for someone to say taxes per person don't count must have their head in the sand.
Union County under Paris has the highest increase per person in tax dollars!!
Union County taxes per person FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT is higher than all the counties listed here except one, it is the 5th highest in all 22 north Georgia counties. Union County under Paris is the 5th highest in percentage increase in taxes per person out of 159 countie

(a) If any public officer or other person shall steal, embezzle, alter, corrupt, withdraw, falsify, or avoid any record, process, charter, gift, grant, conveyance, or contract; or shall knowingly and willfully take off, discharge, or conceal any issue, forfeited recognizance, or other forfeiture; or shall forge, deface, or falsify any document or instrument recorded or any registry, acknowledgment, or certificate; or shall alter, deface, or falsify any minutes, document, book, or any proceeding whatever of or belonging to any public office within this state; or if any person shall cause or procure any of these offenses to be committed, or to be in any manner concerned therein, he shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment and labor in the penitentiary for not less than two years nor more than ten years.
Ape my friend-- It is not because there are not laws to stop Lamar. It is because the Great State of Georgia does not have any one to enforce the law!!!

Go down that rabbit trail, if you want to, sometimeman. I don't think it is a solution to our problems to haul anyone off to jail. It won't happen unless you have real charges. Besides, you don't have to be a Mensa member to understand the problems. It takes genius and courage to offer solutions. It is said no doubt by Republicans... "Republicans believe in solutions, which are decided upon and implemented by the people themselves, through their locally elected representatives. Republicans believe that the solution to American's problems lies in the greatness of the American people." Where are these Republicans who believe in solutions? The people will decide.

""The people will decide.""
Yes they will, based on false data put out by the NGN, the commisar, and coon-man.
It's a known statistic (a word that ape and his cohorts hate) that a vast majority of the electorate don't have a clue about the workings of government and especially the politicians running the country.
The vast electorate don't know the issues, the solutions, the money involved, the mis-spending of monies and in some cases, even who the Candidates are.
Some don't know who they will vote for when they enter the voter booth, they just push a button with their eyes closed and say to themselves, "it don't matter who I vote for cause the government is gonna screw me anyway." And with the present commisar they are right.
This sorry NGN paper and the people who run it are nothing more than a leader of the ignorant and uninformed and they keep the people uninformed. They are like the lemmings in the lead, carrying the people of Union County over the cliff and ole Lamar grins at the affair.

Bubbba, you sound very frustrated. You ramble like a crazy man. I can't speak for the rest of the voters, but we don't need a hack in local government who will slash away at essential services like law enforcement, judicial, and emergency services. Everybody knows taxes went up. I can go to the grocery store and see things have gone up. However, if there is some great plan to slash slash the budget, Cook needs to tell us what he plans to slash.
I love statistics. I'm not sure where you got the idea I don't like meaningful statistics. I just don't believe in making data more complicated than it needs to be.
Of course, you are wrong about many things, but most of all you underestimate the people who vote. We are not the enemy. We all want the same things: quality of life, essential services, low taxes, and government that listens to the voice of the people, etc. So, why do you keep disrespecting the voters and the people who work to make Union County better?
It is not the electorate who is running for office. Bubba, you seem confused. What is disturbing to me is that Cook doesn't know the issues, the solutions, he is out of touch with current budget requirements, and he doesn't know the electorate.

""I'm not sure where you got the idea I don't like meaningful statistics. ""
I got the idea from you, it must have come from another one of your post-menopausal convulsions.
""I can't speak for the rest of the voters, but we don't need a hack in local government.""
We already have one in your honor, and you speak just like him and some examples of your double speak follow:
Whenever Paris gets caught with his pants down(in error of something), he lays the blame elsewhere or says "I didn't know".
Whenever Paris is presented with opposition, he claims the attack is on the people who try to make Union County a better place to live, the same line the sorry NGN uses.
Whenever Paris is shown to be a tax and spend waster of taxpayers money, he claims it's used for the good of Union County when only about 70% is used for the good of UNion County and the other 30% is wasted.
He claims we have the 3rd lowest property taxes in the State when the Georgia Department of Revenue's figures show he has the 5th highest percentage increase of all 159 counties since he took office.
What is Appalling to the voters of Union County is not only the tax increases and wasteful spending but the arrogance Paris shows by assuming the people of Union County are dumb and stupid. Not only does Paris do this but his supporters also.
And the age old question is:
Why do some men of seemingly good character to other people have no conscience and are confused with the principles of truth? And why do people believe them?
And the Lord said, I will place a veil over their minds so they may not know me.
