KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer signed a two-year contract extension but received no raise, keeping him at the university until 2013 at his current salary of $2.05 million, the school announced Thursday night.
It marks the second season in a row Fulmer has not received a raise, after receiving a raise and extension every other season since he became head coach halfway through the 1992 season.
The Volunteers went 9-4 last season, ending with a 20-10 loss to Penn State in the Outback Bowl. The season was a big improvement from the 5-6 record of 2005, Fulmer's worst.
"In a world where coaching changes appear to be coming more frequently, Phillip brings a tremendous amount of stability to our program and we feel Tennessee football is well-positioned for the future," athletic director Mike Hamilton said in a statement.
The extension also gives Fulmer an unspecified pool of money to give raises to his coaching staff. The details will be announced in coming weeks.
Since taking over for Johnny Majors in 1992, Fulmer has a 137-41 record, including a national championship in 1998, two overall Southeastern Conference titles and five Eastern Division titles.
"I can honestly say that I have the best job in America, serving as an ambassador for the state and university that mean so much to me," Fulmer said in a statement. "There is no place I'd rather be than on our campus and on our sideline teaching our young men."
Under the current contract, Fulmer receives the following performance-based bonuses: $37,500 for a non-Bowl Championship Series bowl; $50,000 for an SEC Eastern Division first-place tie; $75,000 for an SEC Championship game appearance; $100,000 for an SEC Championship or BCS bowl; $150,000 for appearing in the BCS national championship game; and $250,000 for a national championship.

Arrest warrant issued for UGA's Strickland
By CHIP TOWERS The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 03/26/07 Athens — Another Georgia football player has found himself on the wrong side of the law.
Tanner Strickland, a freshman offensive guard from Nashville, Ga., had a warrant issued for his arrest Monday for possession of a fraudulent ID, according to UGA police spokesman Lisa Boone. As of early Monday afternoon, Strickland still had not been arrested.

No other details were immediately available.
Georgia spokesperson Claude Felton said coach Mark Richt is aware of the situation. "It will be handled in a manner he feels appropriate," Felton said.
Strickland's arrest is the third of a UGA football player since the end of last season. Offensive lineman Ian Smith is suspended for six games this season for his second alcohol-related offense in December. Linebacker Akeem Hebron received a two-game suspension after his arrest for underage possession in February.

PRO TIMING DAY OFFERS EX-VOLS CHANCE TO SHINE BEFORE NFL SCOUTS Eighteen former Volunteers vying for spots in the April 28-29 NFL Draft displayed their wares
March 21, 2007
Tennessee staged its annual pro timing day Wednesday at the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center, allowing National Football League scouts the opportunity to see first-hand the skills of recent UT performers.
Eighteen former Volunteers vying for spots in the April 28-29 NFL Draft displayed their wares, participating in seven events under the watchful eyes of representatives from nearly every NFL team.
"They all competed," said Condredge Holloway, UT's assistant athletics director for player relations. "We didn't have any `I'm not going to do this or that.' Everybody was out there ready to go and I had a lot of positive comments from the scouts."
Holloway said players who maintained their draft value included wide receiver Robert Meachem, defensive tackle Justin Harrell and offensive tackle Arron Sears. Holloway added that although Turk McBride had a slightly twinged hamstring, the defensive lineman also worked well and had good reviews.
"I thought Robert Meachem really solidified some of the thoughts people had about his willingness to compete and really sold himself," Holloway said. "So did Justin Harrell, and Jonathan Wade ran a great time."
Meachem ran the fastest 40-yard dash time, a 4.41, with Wade (4.44), Jason Mitchell (4.55) and Bret Smith (4.56) close behind. Harrell had 31 repetitions on the bench press, trailing the 35 by Matt McGlothlin and just ahead of McBride's 30.
The list of former UT players participating was: Cory Anderson, Stanley Asumnu, C.J. Fayton, Justin Harrell, David Ligon, Turk McBride, Matt McGlothlin, Robert Meachem, Jason Mitchell, Marvin Mitchell, Arron Sears, Bret Smith, Antwan Stewart, Jayson Swain, Jonathan Wade, Ryan West, James Wilhoit and David Yancey.
Tennessee's football team returns to the practice field for three more practices this week -- a full workout Thursday, Friday afternoon's walk-through in front of the annual coaching clinic attendees, followed by Saturday's monster scrimmage at

VOLS SECONDARY SHINES IN LAST BIG SCRIMMAGE BEFORE ORANGE AND WHITE Only two practices remain before next Saturday's EdAmerica Orange & White game
March 24, 2007
Srimmage Highlights | Coach Fulmer Scrimmage Photos
Three Jarod Parrish interceptions highlighted an impressive showing from the Tennessee secondary during Saturday's football scrimmage at Neyland Stadium. Played in front of more than 300 attendees from the annual Tennessee Coaches Clinic, the Vols completed their busiest week of work with better than two hours of scrimmage action.
UT's defensive backfield limited quarterbacks Jonathan Crompton and Nick Stephens to slightly better than a 50-percent completion rate, a combined 258 passing yards and no touchdowns. Roshaun Fellows added a fourth interception to complete the whitewash.
"Obviously, we didn't take care of the ball nearly as well as we needed to on offense," head coach Phillip Fulmer said. "Today should do a lot for Jarod's confidence. He's getting his hands on some balls in some of our coverages, he's the robber guy. On one of them, he made a very nice play and kind of set the quarterback (Stephens) up.
"Scrimmages are hard because you're looking at certain situations and putting the players in all kinds of scenarios that come up during the season."
Tennessee's defensive front chipped in seven sacks by seven different players for minus-48 yards along with two additional tackles for loss. Linebacker Ryan Karl had a sack and another tackle for loss, while defensive ends Xavier Mitchell and Antonio Reynolds added one sack apiece.
"That's a great thing because we really haven't made much happen with the defensive front," Fulmer said. "All of a sudden, Xavier Mitchell, Antonio Reynolds and some of the ones inside -- they're showing up. That's a great thing."
Crompton completed 15-of-30 pass attempts for 141 yards and an interception. Stephens was 14-of-27 for 117 yards but threw three interceptions. On the receiving end, Quintin Hancock led with 75 yards on five catches. Josh Briscoe and Austin Rogers added six catches apiece.
"Other than Quintin Hancock, there was not a lot happening at receiver," Fulmer said. "We're having a hard time getting off press and man-to-man coverage. We did hit some crossing routes today, which is good. I've learned a long time ago that it's never as bad as it seems and never as good as it seems.
"We're doing a good job with our tight ends and our backs, we just don't see a whole lot of things happening consistently with our receiving corps -- although Quintin Hancock showed up today."
Redshirt freshman Daniel Lincoln continued his bid to take over the placekicking duties, connecting on 8-of-10 tries including a 6-of-7 effort from better than 40 yards. Junior Britton Colquitt also was solid, making 6-of-9 to go with a 50.3-yard punting average on four attempts.
"We got some good work in the kicking game," Fulmer said. "I'm really pleased with the way Daniel Lincoln has responded. From where he finished in the fall to where he is now, he's really close to being able to kick in the Southeastern Conference."
The Vols have practices Tuesday and Thursday before wrapping up the 2007 spring schedule with the EdAmerica Orange and White Game next Saturday at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
"We're going to play a game," Fulmer said of this year's format. "However we divide it up and work it out, we're going to play a game."
"I do believe that our spring practice has been very productive, that we've gotten better as the course of the spring has gone on," Fulmer said. "I know we have become a more physical team. As we start putting the pieces together, I think we can be a competitive football team. How competitive is going to depend on a great summer, guys filling some roles and our leadership growing."

It ain't looking too good for the sports teams that I like. The Braves are on the verge of not making it to the playoffs and the Dawgs aren't off to a good start. I'd love to see the Falcons kick butt this year, they need to see that they are a good team without Mike Vick.
