this is sort of on topic, sort of not. What would y'all do if you knew someone who had a child (approx age 8) who was not enrolled in school nor was the child being home schooled even though the parent said aloud to others that the child was being home schooled. How do schools or the state even know that kids exist anyway in terms of being schooled? This has been bothering me for some time now.

The state knows who you are & how many kids you have based on your taxes each year (if you file), & then there's testing that needs to be done each year by the home school teacher & presented to the state to keep up with the level your child is at. I tell my children that if I home schooled them, that they'd learn alot about travel & tourism in their schooling!!! LOL

Texie regarding the issue you mentioned the state of Clifornia issued a law that you can't homeschool your children unless you had a teaching degree.
