kid stops by, asks for work numerous times, day after day, has a mouth to feed, will do any job blah blah blah. finally I feel so bad that yesterday I convince my husband to give him a chance doing yard labor/clean up. he only works 'til 4:30 and then has to leave but asks if he can come work "tomorrow" (meaning today). then he shows up an hour late. my husband wouldn't let him stay. what's up with today's youth?

Did he have an explanation? Were you paying him by the hour? I agree with Taylor's comments, but sometimes folks need a chance to prove themselves. Also, he may be in need of some parenting, some encouragement as how to be a responsible provider to his family. I can say that may of today's youth do not necessarily have appropriate role models around to demonstrate how to be a responsible provider. Sometimes parents do not give their children everything. Quite the contrary, some parents give their children very little. I'm just thinking maybe the kid needs a hand-up. Now a note about me! I have been accused of being a sucker, bleeding heart, and a bit gullible! Has anyone ever heard the story about "Entertaining Angles Unawares"?

Ana, I totally agree with you about some parents not giving the children what they need. I am definitely a bleeding heart sucker but my husband is a New York Yankee - please - he does not understand my desire to employ the unemployable and gets really upset with me! Anyway, I just fel like if the young man spent so much time trying to get the job, why cut out early and then show up late? He said he overslept ... What is the story you were going to tell?!?! Please tell us!

Well, there are many different versions of the same story. It is really based on the scripture of Matthew 23:35. It basically involves helping/ministering to the beaten and down trodden. This does not necessarily mean hand outs, but rather a hand up. The basic premise of the various versions of the story is that when these people visit you minister to them because one never knows when that needy person may just in fact be an angel unaware. I try to keep this in my mind when I see others in need. Remembering that we are to love our brother as ourselves. I try to put myself in their place and consider how I would feel if I were in that position. I think it would be really wonderful to one day hear the Father say, "That was an angel I sent your way and I am proud of the way you responded.

Oh, Ana, I REALLY want that to be the case for me as well. I try really hard to have a fresh outlook each time I encounter an individual in that situation but unfortunately, I have been proven "a fool" (according to those around me) time and time again. However, I have no regrets.

Good for you cabin! Crickets are good luck. We try and catch them and put them outside. My BIL was 47 and lived in central Florida. He never married and had no children. They say that married men live longer.
