I was borned Gertrude Maybell Smith somewheres around eighty years ago in the piney woods of Georgia. I been married to the same old geezer fer what seems like ferever. I got my share of wrinkles, and my hair’s been gray fer so long that I done fergot what color it used to be. I’ve always been a big ol’ strong gal. My daddy used to say it was ‘cause I come from good stock.
I was borned and bred way out in the country, and never took a shine to the big cities and all their high fallutin’ ways. Now I ain’t sayin’ I ain’t never visited some of them places, cause I have. Why jest in Georgia, I’ve walked in downtown Savannar and seen all them big, old houses built side by side and I’ve walked down River Street. I’ve seen the state capitol in Atlanter and stood at the foot of Stone Mountain. I had an uncle what lived in Columbus, and been to a few doctors in other big cities. In my younger days, I even traveled as fer west as Californy, been as fer north as Canada, and as fer south as Mexi-co. This here country gal has done some travelin’ in her day!
I’m jest an ol’Georgia gal, and I reckon I’m about as country as you can git. Ya’ll jest better keep in mind whilst readin’ what i write that country don’t mean ignernt ner uneducated! I jest write the way I talk, that-a-way, maybe ya’ll will understand me a bit better. If I wrote this all proper like, it probly jest wouldn’t come out right. I ain’t un-educated, but I don’t try to be somethin’ I’m not. Jest plain and simple, that’s me.

Gran Ma Gertie looks like there's another wanna be you a postin. Yup and her name is Bessie. Jisty has been here longer than Granma Gertie posting but Bessie is the wanna be. Does anyone other than me think Bessie is a fraud? I've met both Jisty & Grandma Gertie. I hope Bessie isn't mocking my dear friends. |
