Bee, don't feel like the Lone Ranger in this forgetful stuff -
I will set things I need to return or take with me on a table next to the door so that when I leave, I won't forget them. They're usually still on the table when I get back -
I've been in the middle of a conversation and completely forget what I was I was talking about. My daughter calls it the "train left the station" (as in train of thought). Often, an hour or more goes by and the train returns!
A couple months ago, I was busy doing housework and went into my room to get the dirty clothes and do laundry. I walked into the room and had no idea why I was in there, so I just made the bed and returned to the front of the house. A bit later, I remembered the clothes and went back to my room. When I got there, the "train" had left again, so I cleaned the bathroom and returned to the front of the house.
Again, I remembered and went back, only to forget the clothes a third time! I finally went in there to vacuum and remembered the clothes! I grabbed the clothes basket and went right then and got them started! I left the vacuum on so I wouldn't forget to finish the vacuuming in my room!
When we were in Colorado, I had to make an emergency trip home. On my way back to Colorado, my Jeep started acting up - shutting off, skipping, not wanting to crank. I was in a desolate area in west Texas and traveling alone. I managed to make it to a gas station in the middle on nowhere, fill up with gas and use a gas treatment, hoping it would straighten out.
I made it about 150 miles, Jeep still acting up, and decided to stop for the night in El Paso. I stopped at a station to get gas and put another gas treatment in. It was then I discovered I did not have my wallet! No money, no ID, no phone card, no nothing! I was in a panic! I called Sonny collect and told him what was going on. He said he'd come and get me. I went to a Motel 6, explained my situation, gave them my home number, my work number and mama's number to verify that I wasn't a vagrant looking for a place to stay for free. Luckily, the woman at the desk ok'd it for me to get a room. I called Sonny again and told him the phone number and where I was staying. He told me that mama had called and told him that "some guy cashier from a gas station" called her, told her he had found my wallet in the restroom, found her number, and that he would hold onto it for me!
Sonny got there the next morning. We paid the motel bill, hooked up the Jeep to the towbar, and headed back to Texas to get my wallet. Sure enough, my wallet was there with everything intact! We gave the man a reward and I wrote a "praise and thanks" letter to the company that owned the gas station. I learned quite the lesson!
I don't think it has anything to do with age either. About 15 years ago, my car broke down and my husband (now ex) had been taking me back and forth to work for a couple weeks. One evening, I got off about an hour early and was sitting outside waiting on him to pick me up. We didn't have a phone so I couldn't call him. About 2 hours later, a friend of mine got off and when she came out, she said she's drop me off. I got home, walked in, and my husband asked me "Why didn't you drive home?" I had completely forgotten that my car had been fixed the day before and I had driven it to work! We got in his car, drove back to where I worked and picked up my car!
I have found money that I had stuck back for emergencies but forgot that I had. I have misplaced more things than I can count and will find them when I least expect it. I have forgotten to mail letters, and have even put them in the box forgetting to put a stamp on!
I am a sufferer of C.R.S. !
