It was okay when I was over there late this afternoon. The wind must have changed and directed more of the smoke to Hiawassee. It did remind me of those awful wildfires in Florida in 1998. Thousands of acres burned, hundreds of homes were lost and for 6 weeks my area was solid smoke. It was more terrifying to me than a hurricane.

From what I hear it is out now. The firefighters and everyone who helped did a fantastic job.

I think you are right maddy, everything I'm reading or seeing now indicates 800 acres. Only on channel 11 was it reported to be 8,000 acres, guess the anchor mis-read the numbers.

I've heard it all now wiseman. I'm surprised that George Bush hasn't been blamed yet. LOL. If true, I imagine the restaurants did well for a couple of days - especially the pizza places.
