I think for the most part tulip there is alot of mistrust for local doctors and the hospital. The concensus seems to be "they have a big nice building, now why won't they get some decent doctors?" There was a physical therapy clinic just past BK on hwy 515 but I'm not sure if it's still in business or not. There are several primary care doctors that have a full patient load and won't take any new ones, those docs seem to do very well. Other doctors seem to come and go fairly often. I think our ambulance service is excellent, they should be since they get a large chunk of tax dollars to support them along with the fact that they also charge for their services, double whammy. We have a volunteer fire and rescue squad which in my opinion are top notch, they are mostly younger guys but they are very well trained and are good at what they do.

I'm not sure if there has been any new physicians move into the area since I moved, but when we were there it seemed to be quite lacking - No Cardiologist or Pulmonary specialist, which was what Sonny needed.
Luckily, we never had a reason to visit the hospital, so I can't say anything one way or another.

Gainesville or Emory! I think they fly trauma to Chattanooga & Atlanta.

Northeast Ga. Medical center in Gainesville is probably a little over an hour away, it's not far mileage wise but it takes a while to drive over the mountain. It's a very good hospital, it seems like you get more personalized care than you do at the hospitals in Atlanta, though they are good too.

Hmm, I've seen that one. I think it's called Piedmont Mountainside or something like that. I haven't heard anything good or bad about it.

Seems like most people who have serious medical issues go to Gainesville. Maybe some research on the internet would be helpful.

There are cardiologists, oncologists, and at least 1 G/I specialist in the area... hubby had seen all of those. I have used GYN in Blue Ridge. Hubby had been in the Blue Ridge hospital once and the Blairsville hospital (both old and new) a couple times. I'd take the Blairsville hospital over Blue Ridge for several reasons.

If you are bringing a health insurance plan with you, most insurance websites will give you the "participating" doctors for their plans... When we were researching what doctors/hospitals were covered, we had Humana and the Blairsville hospital and most doctors in the area took Humana... then hubby's former employer switched carriers to Cigna PPO. Now the local doctors are covered, but Union General is NOT! what a pain that is! And what really gripes me; Cigna says Union General is covered under their HMO plan! Does not make sense to me at all!
