A very non religious writer wanted to do write a book on the different religions in America. He decided he would start at one side of the country and work his way to the other side.
He first went to a huge church in downtown Seattle. He was interviewing the pastor and different attendees when he noticed a small cubicle that had a golden telephone inside. A sign by the phone said "PHONE CALLS - $10,000 PER CALL"
He asked the pastor what the phone was and why it was so high to make a call. The pastor replied "This is a direct line to talk to God Himself, hence the high price. After all, you'll be calling Heaven."
"Hmm", the writer thought, "I didn't even know they had such a thing. I wish I had the $10,000. I have so many questions..."
He then packed up and headed to his next destination. Over the course of several months, he had visited small churches and large ones, ones in the big cities and ones in rural areas. He had visited all denominations from Baptist to Catholic. Every single church had a Golden Telephone, and always the price of $10,000 per call.
The writer finally made it to a small rural church in Georgia. Sure enough, there was the Golden Telephone, but this time, the sign said 'PHONE CALLS .35 cents" This puzzled him, so after the service and his usual interviews were finished, he asked the preacher about the phone. He told the preacher of all the other phones he had seen and told him about the price of a call being $10,000. He asked him why the Golden Telephone in his church listed the price of a call as .35 cents.
The preacher replied, "Well, that's pretty simple - you're in God's Country now, son, it's a local call!"
