What is happening in the Georgia schools to move technology forward? It seems like it would be a good thing to prepare our young people for the future. Can any one give me information on what is happening in North Georgia to take advantage of the new fiber optic ring Blue Ridge Mountain EMC is putting in Union County? Where are we in the technology race, especially in our schools? From the Cherokee Sentinel: HDHS moves into the high tech age By Gabby Hudson Staff Writer Hiwassee Dam School took the first step into a bright, light future of technology that will carry students for the next 25 years. Representatives from Blue Ridge Mountain EMC, Cherokee County School Board, Winchester Enterprises Inc, attended the, "Lighting" of the first school in the Western North Carolina Education Network or WNC-EDNET Project. The winds of change blow slowly in Union County. We are lucky to have working computers in our schools. Not that I'm down on the school board or anything.

I agree with you zhelton, if the school system can afford to pay the superintendent and his assistants huge salaries then you would think they could afford some decent instructional materials for students. It may be different now but a few years ago the high school special ed students were moved into tiny trailers because of lack of space but at the same time the football stadium was remodeled and the football players got new uniforms and rode to away games on charter buses.

When my son was in 3rd grade, he told me how he had to tell the computer class teacher how to change the time on the computer. I'm hoping she was a sub at least.

Lilred had to take a computer class and knew as much as the instructor. She explained to him that she already had a pc, she just had to learn to type without looking.
In the 6th grade for a science project she did a slide-show presentation of the solar system and the teacher quizzed her asking if she had actually done it. Lilred said Yes she had and proceeded to explain to her science teacher exactly how to save pics to a file and then import them into the designated area and apply text.
Do you think kids are just born smarter these days? I do. However, I don't think that they have the common sense and logic skills that we had growing up.
