I'm sure during the summer a lot of you got the chain letter about hand sanitizer poisoning in young children. Some of you probably thought it was just another fake letter being sent around. But, it's true. You can read about it here: www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/sanitizer.aspEven a small amount of hand sanitizer (the amount that a teacher would give a child to use) can cause alcohol poisoning if ingested. This can lead to death or at least serious health problems if not treated immediately. I'm not suggesting that we ban hand sanitizer from schools, because use of hand sanitizer has been proven to decrease illnesses in children. But, we can educate our kids and their teachers. If you have a child in the primary or elementary school, please speak to their teachers about this. They (and you) should teach the kids that hand sanitizer is for your hands only, and that if they eat it, it will make them very sick. Please pass this information on to other parents.
