anything for a buck - I've seen a lot of scams done this way as well. They contact people telling them they have "won" some vacation package, home theater system, or some other expensive prize. All the "winner" has to do is agree to attend the wonderful, eye-opening, financial miracle seminar, at their own expense of course. The "winner" gets hooked into the scam, and the next thing you hear, somebody has been arrested and a bunch of gullible people have been duped.
This is a practice used nation wide. When we were in Colorado, there were several "seminars" held at the college advertising land in Arizona and New Mexico. The land was advertised as pristine, rural hide-aways and estates, suitable for "real ranch style retirement living" or the "perfect place to raise a family out of the turmoil of the city". Basically, the land was unusable, desolate, dry desert in the middle of nowhere!
With the market as it is now, I'm not so sure I'd worry too much. Too many people can't afford to buy second properties, and countless others can't sell what they already have to free up their money to make new purchases.
