Lamar Paris created a deep rift among Union County citizens when he brought up the alcohol issue. He supported it and thought it would pass (or else he wouldn't have brought it up). His main reason in doing so was because he knew that a private resort was being considered for Union County that would serve alcohol. When the alcohol issue was defeated by the voters Paris still gave the green light to the owners of the resort to serve alcohol there, in doing so he spat in the face of the voters.

In the two terms of Paris property taxes have more than doubled. The cost of the services that the county provides and the salaries of the people who provide them surely haven't doubled. The only things that have been accomplished was a drivers license office (paid for by the state) and a new health department (partially paid for by the state), the new health department had major damage done the first week it was open when water pipes burst and flooded the building.
