Thanks Bubba it does help I have several friends that teach at the school I'm sure they will be really happy to see how much their shining example of a community leader boss makes over their own meager salaries. Also pugs; most counties supplement the teachers salaries. The supplement varies from county to county.

The teachers salaries shown are the State level. The county supplement brings those numbers up.
Also-teachers that earn the extra degrees and extra credit courses taken earn much more. If you look at the pay chart you'll see what I mean. That's good pay for 6 weeks work, 1 week off. 10 days or so for Christmas. Most all holidays and the summer off. Not to mention personal time off, sick time off. Teachers do ok in the State of Georgia and everywhere, except for the beginning teachers.
Most all government employees; State, Local, and Federal make better than the average worker. The only ones that might make less are clerical, firemen, policemen, and maint. workers in smaller communities.

Also pugs, Union County's Super is ranked #50 is salary in the State as of June 30, 2005. Since his salary has gone up quite a bit, he's probably in a higher ranking now. Also Union county was ranked #86 in population in 2005 and Union County has a dis-proportionate elderly population. So I'd say he is over paid.

Pugs-hope this info helps. Anti-Nepotism Policies * Local boards of education may not employ or promote any person who is a member of the immediate family of any board member, unless a public, recorded vote is taken on such employment or promotion as a separate matter from any other personnel matter. The board member whose family member is being considered may not vote. The link below is for School Supers year ending June 2005. I believe our Super makes around $165,000 now but I could be wrong but not too wrong. For our school size I believe he's over paid and for sure he don't need 2 assistant Supers making an average of over $100,000. Most Supers used to be paid by size of school system back in the 70's and 80's when they were elected. Now that they are appointed by Boards their salaries have escalated, it's the same problem with the Boards being informed about the financial affairs of the system, most of them don't have a clue what's going on, they follow whatever the Super tells them. techservices.doe.k12.ga.us/admin/datacollect/financial/fin_pack_05%20supt_salaries.htmThe below link is for teacher's salaries . Go to this link and you'll see a box with teachers salaries for different years. click on which year you wanna see. public.doe.k12.ga.us/fbo_budget.aspx Thanks for posting this Bubba, what a eye opener!!!

Just a question maybe someone could help me with........ back over the last 6 years or so, I had several friends "flipping" property to raise the value. What would happen if someone started selling way below assesed value and recording the sales? Would the tax on the property not have to be lowered to reflect the fair market value? After all we are obviously in a slump now and its not going away any time soon..............

I knew a large land holder, that hired an auction company, put up large plywood signs, held an auction had friends buy back what property he wanted to keep and proved to the accessors what his "fair market" value was!

You can file a return any time you want at the assessors office declaring a lower value. If it's assessed at $50,000 and you think it's worth $30,000, file the return. They have to prove your assessment is wrong before they can put it above the $30,000 you returned on it.

I prefer whine and cry on this subject Bubba. It's B & M in the Lamar thread.
What's the difference you may ask?
The difference on the school tax is every property owner in the county gets to look at those numbers every year while they pay those high taxes we whine and cry all the way to the court house, nothing we can do except replace the present school board a work in progress until then we whine and cry...
The Lamar thread has plenty of questions and answers , thus it's the B & M thread solutions with nobody willing to step up to the plate and get-er done other than to pass the buck to the voters that's why its the B & M thread.
Got it !! ;D

P.S.
Thanks Bubba until you explained all this school salaries and administrative waste I was about to blame it all on Lamar guess that $190 dollar tax cut last year I got from the county was a heck of allot better than nothing which is what I got from the School board !!
