I know it may be on shaky ground to some individuals in this forum, but what do you folks think about our Sheriff race? It would be nice to not only get Lamar out, but to take a look at some stuff that has occured with our law enforcement. I know people keep saying that Scott Stephens must be doing a good job, but I have been hearing otherwise from his employees and fellow law enforcement officers. I noticed on topix that the Tom Jones guy has a website now, and I am not saying to set our eyes on him yet....But look at what he has on it. He makes several good points, and sounds like he is for the tax payers in this county. Has anyone heard who else might be running?? I would be interested to hear there ideas too.... www.tomjonesforsheriff.com is Tom's address if anybody feels they want to check it out. I just noticed he even linked to this website refering to information he has gotten off of the main page.

Thank you for the info unionindividual and I hope you stay with us and post here regularly. I have heard alot of rumors about Tom Jones, some good and some bad. Alot of people don't trust him just because of the fact that he's from Florida. I don't think that should have anything to do with the way he would do his job though. I personally like Scott Stephens and I think he has done a decent job as sheriff, he could help his cause if he would get in a patrol car and work a shift and make himself visible a little more often. I've heard all the stories about his supposed drunk escapades and if anyone could ever prove to me that he did any of the things that he's been accused of then I will not vote for him. Thanks for the link about Tom Jones, I will check the site out and see what he has to offer. I've said before that I firmly believe that there is one man who could easily defeat Scott and be a dang good sheriff and that man is Bear Baxter, but he has said that he's not interested in running right now. I've spoken with another member of the local law enforcement who is considering running if he can get some financial support but he asked me not to reveal his name until he decides for sure what he wants to do.

I will stick around until my fingers can't type. I can't assure you that I will not post as often as some on here, but I will try to stay informed on the Sheriff situation and our Commissioner race. If I hear of anything else on any of these matters, I will be quick to inform. I know Bear Baxter too, and he is a good man and really intelligent about law enforcement. If he isn't running, I would like to see who he supports and for what reason. I doubt that will happen as he is in police work and probably wouldn't wanna get involved in a political race.

Bear works for the Blairsville police department and not the county, Bear is pretty forthcoming about saying what he believes so he would probably tell you who he supports. Johnny Carroll would be another good candidate for sheriff but I doubt that he would run either.

The sheriff has as more power than he realizes. It'll will take him a while. Hes got to educate the grand jury and get backing from the Georgia Sheriff's association but he can do it!
