I appreciated the drug article by Mr. Cooper this week (titled many of those recently arrested on felony drug charges were born outside Georgia). I think its a good point that he makes that people often go outside their home state to import or export drugs. And just like other people come to UC with their drugs, drug dealers in UC seem to go out of state to get their drugs. Speaking of which, whatever happened with this? www.unionsentinel.com/news/2007/0816/Front_Page/005.htmlI remember Mr. Cooper writing an article about a lot of questions were being raised about that. About how maybe the superintendent's kid didn't know what was in there, or how he wasn't trying to land without lights, or how maybe space aliens planted those drugs.

There's a big difference in those cases. Maybe not everyone is intelligent enough to understand that.

Why don't Mr. Cooper write about the Union County School Administrators son being in the drug business?
It seems like I remember hearing about the boy being caught in south Georgia on a plane with drugs. Who owned the Plane. Was the plane confiscated? Where is the good people of Union County? Are they all lining up behind the school official and Mr. Paris and Mr. Cooper. Looks like moonie is first in line
We all need to keep our jobs, we got to pay our bills and keep a roof over our heads. Mr. Cooper shouldn't go writing stuff about drugs and causing us to remember this!
Kind of like the time the preacher caught his wife and the deacon, maybe if we just all be quite, it will just all go away and we can just continue to live in the land of make believe. Help us Mr. Cooper, help us! "Paint me a Birmingham", Norm you know, front proarch going all way around, make it early spring, put her there in the front yard in a swing. Hurry Norm, hurry reality is coming

I fail to see the point in listing the state of birth of those arrested. It means nothing. He WANTS it to mean something by implying these people came to town to do drugs and are still from the place they were born. In reality, I bet most, if not all, have lived here for some time. Of course, why would a reporter want to do research before publishing when they can just sensationalize?

What's norm's home state? The people in the drug business must have customers up this way? Did they drive all way up here for nothing?

I liked the letter in this weeks' fishwrapper by William Jenkins. He refers to sociopathy, was he referring to the editor? ole Norm has shown his backsides many a time in calling the opposition to high taxes and wasteful spending undesirables. Come to think of it, Norm does exhibit a lot of the traits mentioned in the letter.

Most of the arrests were for possession, not dealing.
All but a few listed in the paper listed their residence as Blairsville or somewhere close to Union Co.
Why drive when you have a homeboy who flies, or attempts to fly it in?

The last I heard the supt. said that his son was not guilty and the facts would come out in court. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it seems like a pretty clear cut case to me.

Does anyone else see commonality of excuses between "Its not the student's fault" on the CRCT scores and "its not my son's fault" for flying a plane of dope without a license (and trying to hide by landing without lights)?
A thorough audit of Georgia's rural school system vendors will show you where the money really goes. Theres a reason people want to be rural county school supers and why they'll fight to the death to keep those positions.
Lets say - hypothetically of course - that I were a school superintendent in a rural county with a $28,000,000 budget. How easy is it to set up a holding company and a subsidiary corp which brokers supplies for a 5% fee? if $14,000,000 is for supplies thats an extra $700,000 a year to my company - in addition to the $150,000 or more that I make as a salary PLUS $20,000 - $30,000 a year in travel reimbursements.

No not at all. Mr. Stephens neither took nor scored the CRCT's. This was a systemic state wide issue and not related to the Stephens family or its woes. Please do explain how you formulated this analogy

When only 30% of GA passed the CRCT, it is a problem with the test. I admire Steohens for standing behind his students and faculity. I have spoken with him personally on this issue.
As for his son, it has nothing to do with the CRCT, Tommy is the darkest times has proven very capable of doing his job.
