This thread is still under construction. While googling for 'Democrats Blairsville GA' and 'Republicans Blairsville GA', I ran across some articles from The Blairsville Herald. It seems that the Democrats and Republicans have been at it for a long time. As time permits, I will provide more links. The Herald articles may be interesting to you, especially if you are a native to Union County and into genealogy. Here is just one article. Perhaps you can yahoo or google more of them. Here are just a few of the headlines from 1892. Harrison is Mad! - Allianceman Baker Thinks the Government Pays its Officials too Much, and Introduces a Bill to Reduce Their Salaries ATTENTION DEMOCRATS!! - The Democrats of Blairsville district are requested to meet in the Court house at Blairsville on Saturday night July 26rd for the purpose of organizing a Democratic Campaign Club. All Democrats in the County are cordially invited to be present, and join them-selves with us, in this fight against Demagoguery, and deception. Isaac Glazier, Chm., Dem., Dist., Ex-Com. The Blairsville Herald (1892) www.ancestraldesigns.com/smarc/union_news_1892.htmlHere is SMARC's main site. I haven't tried navigating on the site, so I haven't found an easy way Herald articles, yet. www.ancestraldesigns.com/smarc/

Help be out here. Was the Union County Commissioner called an Ordinary at one point? When did it change? I'm thinking Marion Chambers was Ordinary of Union County. www.rootsweb.com/~gaunion/court3.htm

More of the Herald. www.ancestraldesigns.com/smarc/union_news_june1902.htmlIf they had only had the Internet in 1902... Hearld: "It is characteristic of a certain family in Union county to persecute every young man who marries unless he bows and bends to them. A woman whose tongue is so long that she can sit in the “big house” and lick the pot vessels out in the kitchen is a good one, isn’t she? I wonder if Mr AB Butt, candidate for county treasurer, has gotten over that shock he received not long ago in Blairsville? How about it, any way? Can a man announce his candidacy for an office in The Herald, or must he publish it on the house tops, or must he tack it up on some sign post at cross roads?" Good one Hearld. [bold] And Sonny you think you have a problem getting your appointment into the North Georgia News.[/bold] www.ancestraldesigns.com/smarc/union_news_may1902.html

The following was a post in the Lamar forum. If anyone can contribute information about politics, history of Union County, or local interest let me know. Fairplay thanks for your information. I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I would like to put together a list of ordinaries / commissioners as far back as we can go. According to the information below, Eugene Collins was ordinary before Nov. 1972. Neal Collins was elected in 1972. I'm thinking about setting up a Web site, portal to various links, and/or blog site on various aspects of our history in Union County. It will take a while to put together, because I need to make a living. For now, I would like to collect information in "OLD NEWS (THE BLAIRSVILLE HERALD)" section at blairsvillecity.com. www.fastcase.com/Yahoo/Start.aspx?C=4afe7a540cdfca6b75482379246d5cfa491733ad31250df6&D=db07a42ccb852d13c09eeb 482467419bbae2cbcf9fb5b94d&AffiliateConst=Yahoo
