IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN YOU SHOULD NOT VOTE FOR TONY DYER. YOU NEED TO THINK BACK AND REMEMBER ALL THE MONEY YOUR CHURCH SPENT TO HELP IN THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST ALCOHOL. TONY'S PLATFORM STATS THAT HE WILL LEGALIZE ALCOHOL ON BEING ELECTED AS SOLE COMMISSIONER OF UNION COUNTY. UNION COUNTY HAS VOTED NO AGAINST ALCOHOL AND THAT IS THE WAY IT NEEDS TO STAY. YOUR CHURCH COVENANT SAYS THAT YOU WILL REFRAIN FROM THE USE AND SALE OF INTOXICATING BEVERAGES (PARAPHRASED). ALWAYS SEEK GOD IN YOUR DECISIONS.

Deacon, with all due respect, I don't know what your church is, but I do know it is not EVERYONE'S church. That being said, it is rather presumptuous for you to tell everryone what their church covenant says. I know mine doesn't say that at all. AND, this is a political race. Last I heard everyone's vote was their own to make and in the interest of remaining tax exempt you may want to refrain from dictating where their vote should or shouldn't go.

We have four people to chose from to get us out of this corrupt mess. If everyone will just make a pledge VOTE for anyone but Lamar we can breath again. Take that pledge and we will all be rid of him in July

No offense Deacon, but please DO not speak for my church!!! My church bylaws do not state that, and as a matter of fact, drinking is not the sin in the bible, it is gluteneous drinking!!! It is ridiculous to state that all Christians should not vote for any candidate. Tony, Gene and Justin are all good men in the community.

Deacon, your post is plain offensive. How dare you state "if you are a Christian, you should not vote for Tony Dyer". Many Christian churches are not anti-alcohol. Your church does not speak for the whole county and to imply that a vote for a particular candidate is non-Christian is ludicrous.

Interesting...bylaws are for local church government. It seems that some 'churches' want to impose their government on other churches and the whole community. I'm not going to vote for Tony because he tells you what you want to hear and I don't think he would be an effective administrator to represent Union County. Unlike most of you here, I'm satisfied with the performance of the incumbent Commissioner. That is no big secret to the Lamar bashes here. However, you are entitled to your opinion.
Just a few words to deacon...you are a deacon in your church only, not mine. The purpose of church bylaws are to preserve unity and maintain a particular churches' testimony. Granted, a church should agree on certain issues of Christian living, but sometimes it becomes an attempt to CONTROL.
By-laws are a good thing. If you are "church shopping", you can read the by-laws and decide whether you want to go there or not. It saves a lot of time and you can learn a lot about the attitude of the church members, since the like sheep seem to flock together.
A “gray area” which the Bible does not specifically address may be covered in a by-law. As in this case, a church may require its members to refrain from the consumption of alcohol; since this is not a doctrinal issue, per se, it is better dealt with in the by-laws. However, as can be seen here on this thread, don't try to impose your church government by-laws on other church governments and individual Christians. If the called out were all the same, we wouldn't have thousands of denominations. So, there..
And the mother load reason for by-laws: By-laws are a way for a local church to protect itself from liability. A church should have written policies on church discipline, screening youth workers, etc. By-laws, just like any big business policy manual, can be a way of averting calamity in a crisis situation. It is just like any other business, club, or other social organization. Whether you want to believe it or not, most churches are businesses or they are run like any other big business. The big difference is you pay the business instead of the business paying you. Hey, churches do a lot of good and the building, maintenance, heating, air and other creature comforts are not free. I'm not knocking any church or the Body of Christ-- I'm just telling you like it is.

I personally have never met anyone who wants to control and show power over people the way LIEMORE PARIS does . It will be a terrible mistake if by chance he goes back in office . VOTE HIM OUT .

Doesn't it really get you that all of a sudden we are all getting a religious lecture from someone that spouts the kind of garbage that Manape has been spouting? For a year he has been critical of any body's opinion but his and Lamar's and now all of a sudden he has gone religious on us. "GIVE ME A BREAK"

No offense to any one, as this a country of the right to free speech. But we all must look at the facts that are already before us. There is already alcohol in this county and has been as long as I can remember. I have been in this county since birth. There are many who choose not to consume alcohol and to them I have great respect. There are also people who choose to consume alcohol and have for years and to them I also have great respect. The facts that effect each of us is that the taxes that are being paid on all of these alcoholic beverages are not being paid to Blairsville. They go to Hiawassee, Murphy and Blue Ridge and Ellijah. We are supporting the economy of the surrounding areas. I feel like that it is time to stop building the economy of the surrounding areas and support the county that we live in already.
