He will double your property taxes and then claim that he lowered them. He will allow you to vote on an issue then when the results aren't what he wanted he will still do what he wants. His own pastor dared to oppose him and he suddenly and mysteriously resigned his church right in the middle of the controversy, draw your own conclusion as to why that happened. There are four other candidates and the worst one of them will make a better leader than lamar.

Lamar Paris is the smallest of the five candidates running in more ways than physical statue . Lamar is the typical little shrimp of a man that likes to show authority . He issues county ordinances as he wishes , many are illegal , so he can show control and power of his office . Vote for anybody BUT LIEMORE .

They are right if nobody votes for him we can all celebrate on the 15. All the rest are a better choice, so Union County can't lose. give him no votes and then we can get down to choosing between the two that are left for Nov. Don't fall for his plea to cross over vote. I guarantee if any republicans cross over it won't be to vote for Lamar

That is one of Tony Dyer's platform issues. He wants to bring it before the county to vote on the multi-commissioner format. I am not sure how Gene or Justin feel about it...Seems like a great idea when you consider a dictator can get us in the mess we are in.

I am open to the idea of a multi-commissioner board.
Post it to the question for candidates section and see what response you get.

Yeah, lets see the City of Blairsville is one square mile and they have a mayor and 5 person city council........... and one guys runs the rest of the county? I'd rather have a multi panel commission myself. Just to even the playing field up some.

Run the city limits to the county lines. Consolidate the city and county governments. Govern with a Five Member council With members serving 4 yr terms and 2 members up for election ever two years and chairman replaced ever two years.

I'd rather have a multi panel commission myself. Just to even the playing field up some. I had never really thought about it that way mac but you're right. If you ask residents of the city of Blairsville they do have some problems with the mayor and city council (mainly involving selective enforcement of ordinances) but there isn't nearly as much discontent with the mayor and council as there is with the county commissioner. Lamar has said that he doesn't support a board because he doesn't want to share his absolute power. Gene Nelson had an excellent post about the issue and while I disagree with his position I certainly see his reasoning, unfortunately most people are not as honest as Gene and cannot handle absolute power.

Facts about sole commissioners:
There are only nine left in the whole United States
Guess where they all are? Georgia, We were probably the last to have slaves also
ALL! the other boards, agency's etc. in the county are multi membered. Health board, development aut. water board, election board--Everything.
The only reason our county is still sole commissioner is it is so much easier to control. In doubt? pull the declarations after the end of the month and see who donated to who.
Two recent Sole Commissioner counties had the commissioner leave office and surprise! millions was gone of taxpayer money
It robs us of our basic form of government at the county level
Executive---Thats Lamar
Judaical----Thats our Judges
legislative---Thats nobody --Lamar makes all the decisions we are not allowed that luxury. If you read your Georgia constitution and the US Constitution I interpret the sole commissioner type of government to be illegal,
80% of the counties in Georgia are five member boards in different configurations with some as many as eleven. The only counties that have trouble when they change over are the ones with 3 members, there again it's easier to control 3 than 5
In actuality the cost is less for those members are part time
Of the 9 counties with sole commissioners only one is getting good reports from the people and she is a woman.
Going back 30 years only one sole commissioner did a job with only the people at heart and he was voted out after one term. he was a great servant of the people. Wayne Colwell. When he died all that was in the papers was a short obit. All the fine work he did for the churches in the area and not a mention. Our community should be ashamed
