I had a moment of temporary insanity and let grumpy and lilred go to the grocery store.
Why do I do that? Will I ever learn?

I ask "why did you buy this?'
They reply 'we haven't ever had it before and it looked good."
I roll my eyes. They don't check to see what we need or if we already have it.

Done all the usual housework stuff, then had a nice fish supper with mama about 4:00. Since she left, I've been working on some family tree stuff. I received an email in reply to a post on a genealogy forum. My original post was in 2003! Yep, 5 years later and this was the first response! But, hey, it's a distant cousin that has some info that I don't, and I have some she doesn't! Guess I'll be working on adding all the new stuff for the next few days.

Bee, This is the site - genforum.genealogy.comIt's really easy to navigate. Ancestry.com seems to be a source of good info, but I've never been able to pay their fees for becoming a member. I haven't used the LDS site but maybe once or twice. I LOVE genealogy! It makes it even better when you not only get a name and a date, but also manage to learn a bit about the person, find an old photo, or hear a story about them. I have a few "brick walls", but hopefully one day I'll get through them. There are a couple areas that I know I can never complete due to illegitimacies. I think my only advantage is that it seems much of my family 'stayed put' through the years. I can find most of my mothers side in 4-5 counties in GA, and on my dads side, in 3-4 in GA, 2-3 in AL, and 2-3 in FL. Although, I do have one 7G Grandfather back to County Antrim Ireland born in 1715, and a 9G grandfather back to England born in 1645! I think one of my most interesting finds was my 4G grandmother - she outsmarted General Sherman during his famous March to the Sea! Wonderful story! Most of my family tree stuff, including lots of old photo's, is on my old computer. It will take me quite a while to get them transferred to this computer. It's time consuming, can get aggravating at times, but to me, it's quite relaxing.

Taylor, I have Sherman's signature in my civil war collection! My 4th G Grandmother was born in 1801. A long story about how she came to be who she was, but, during the Civil War, she had been a widow almost 20 years, was in her 60's, and all of her sons were of fighting for the Confederacy. She was living with one of her daughter-in-laws. The younger woman took care of the children and did all the "woman's work", while Charity did all of the "man's work". She plowed and took care of the fields, took care of the livestock, chopped all the wood, etc. When she found out about Sherman's march, she went down into the river swamp just outside of Dublin and cut logs to make pens for the livestock, and to make shelters to hide what food and valuables they had. When Sherman came through, they found nothing to steal or destroy. So onward they marched towards Savannah. Charity retrieved their things and continued on. She died on September 6, 1885. She lived 84 years, was the daughter-in-law to a Revolutionary War veteran, outlived her husband, survived the Civil War, gave birth to and raised 14 children, and outsmarted the Yankee's! I feel very fortunate to be related to such a strong woman. I've even been lucky enough to visit her grave and leave flowers by her very weathered headstone. Yeah, I like this genealogy stuff!
