I just read that 1/3 of teens admit that they text message on their phones while they are driving. That is scary; most of them don't drive very well anyway!!

hello Motherof4 and welcome to the forum. you are so right about the drinking and driving. perhaps you can use some of your skills from MADD here in Union County because we are threatened regularly with the alcohol vote. I do have some friends who drink but I always drive and I do not drink.

Welcome to the forum. While I respect your opinions and concerns and am against drunk driving as well, I have a few questions;
How do you know they were intoxicated? Since you say they were 'pouring liquor under the table', how do you know how much liquor was poured each time? I have several friends who enjoy their cocktails but pour so little alcohol in the drink I wonder why they even bother.
What exactly does an alcoholic look like that separates them from the rest? If you truly can tell by looks alone, please enlighten us all so we can avoid them on the road.
Did you follow them to their car? Do you know for a fact that they didn't lock the remaining bottle in the trunk of their vehicle, which is not the 'passenger area of the car' as the law states?
While living in Raleigh, with it's probable thousands of restaurants, bars, and clubs that serve alcohol, did you post on any forums about one particular couple that you witnessed drinking and becoming 'intoxicated' (your description, not mine) in your opinion?
Even if you didn't, with Raleigh's population, it wouldn't matter. Surely you noticed that Blairsville is a small town. Sometimes you can post something and never mention a name yet everyone knows or is pretty sure of whom you are speaking.
While your description brings five or six couples to mind, none of the female halves of those couples are alcoholics. Of course, I may be wrong. You can tell by looking and I only know them personally.
Maybe you weren't referring to any of those brown bagging couples that I know; but like I said, it's a small town and many will read your post, think they know who you're talking about and who was labeled an alcoholic. Cause you can tell by looking.

Sangria,
I was kind of wondering many of the same things you mentioned.
Like you, I do not condone drinking and driving. I've lost friends to drunk drivers, so I understand the rage against it. Anyone caught should definitely have their driving privileges revoked. It is a stupid choice that too many people make. In places where alcohol is sold, whether a bar, a restaurant, a liquor store or the bowling alley, whoever sells alcohol to an intoxicated person should be held liable for anything that happens.
I think the part that really bewildered me was -
What does an alcoholic look like? Is it the well groomed, always smiling ex-cop that always looks neat as a pin? Maybe the man who works at the airplane factory? What about the big man in overalls that is a carpenter or the mechanic for the local school buses? Maybe the lady that works at the sewing factory, or the woman who works at the electrical component plant?
I'm not sure what an "alcoholic" is supposed to "look" like. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
By the way, the ex cop was my Uncle Calvin, the airplane factory worker was my Uncle Nelson, the carpenter and the school bus mechanic were my grandfathers, and the women from the sewing factory and the electrical component plant were my grandmothers. They all worked every day, they all provided for their families, they all done things in and for their communities, and yes, they were all alcoholics. But ya know, they didn't look odd in any way.......hmmm..

PS - If these people from the restaurant were obviously intoxicated, then why did you not call the police and report them? You could have gotten up, went outside and gotten their tag number. Who knows, you could have saved a life if they had not been allowed to drive.

The problem with drinking and driving is,most that do it,think their ok to drive. If their beyond reason, then nothing matters to them.
Having a drink with your dinner does not label one a drunk.

Personally I am not worried about brown baggers who have a couple of drinks with their dinner. I am a lot more worried about getting killed by those who drive to Murphy to get their beer and pop a few tops on the way back because they can't wait to drink before they get home. I see empty 12 pack boxes and beer cans every day on the roads. (Geez, not only are they impaired, they are litterbugs too.)

I remember what sam ensley used to say; Towns county gets the sales tax money and Union county only gets the cans. I'm fine with that though, aluminum is bringing good money right now!

We want elvis!! We want Elvis!!
A man with his grown son came and visited the new house my husband is building out in Young Cane Creek settlement yesterday. He said he had heard a lot about it on one of the forums, so he came out to check it out. The problem is, Gary did not find out who the man was. Did anyone's husband come out and look at the house yesterday??? I will die of curiousity now!!
