Drinking and driving, a responsible person wouldn't do it.
I don't have any irresponsible friends, so I don't know who she could be talking about.
I know some alcoholics and grew up around them but none of them looked the same.
As for holding the retailer responsible well that makes as much sense as suing FORD or DODGE when someone is speeding and runs over your kid.
I think the responsibility should be with the individual not the retailer who sold it to them.
If the dog I got from the Humane Society bites someone, who is responsible, me or the humane society?
By the way, talked to the human society lady on Saturday and we hugged and all is well. She is an awesome person.

Bee, I wasn't talking about a sober person buying an alcoholic beverage. I was referring to the obviously intoxicated, ie drunk, person buying it. Too many bartenders, liquor store owners, ect are more worried about making money than doing what is right. Selling an alcoholic beverage, whether a bottle, a six pack or a shot in a mixed drink, to an obviously intoxicated person is just wrong, and it used to be illegal. I'm not sure of the current laws though. Just like when I worked in a pawn shop - I sold firearms. Of course, the buyer had to fill out and sign the 4473 and pass the background check. Even if they did this and passed, if I overheard them talking about using the firearm in a crime, or if I knew it was being purchased for someone else (called a "straw" purchase), it was illegal for me to sell it to them. I was also required to notify local police and the ATF. The same thing should go for selling to an intoxicated person. Period. Saving someones life is never the wrong thing to do, even if you're saving them from themselves.

Taylor I think that is still the law. It also hold true for personal parties. If you host a party where alcohol is served and a party goer has an accident and injures himself or another the host can be held responsible.

nah, just didn't want a misunderstanding. I, too, think people who sue for their own stupidity is ridiculous. Like the woman who sued McDonald's because her coffee was hot!

hmmmm, searching for specifics? I think that you may be referring to me 2CC. I was invited to join this forum by an anonymous person who left a message on my answering machine. So I was searching for specifics as to why I might be invited here in such a way.
