Sonny, your road sounded like another accident waiting to happen and it is much safer now for ALL the people who travel on it...so, what's your beef? As usual, you are off in your own little world and nobody else knows what you are talking about. I think the roads in Union County are much improved over the years, especially during the last 10 or 15 years. I can remember when you could loose a boy scout troop in the potholes on unpaved roads like Mulkey Gap, Skeenah Gap, etc. It was a lot of fun riding in my old dad's Willis on Skeenah after a rain storm, but you had better have had four wheel drive back then. We all deserve to have good-safe roads and I think the road department and our past commissioners have a thankless job. So, thank you to the hard working road department boys for fixing Old Sonny's road. Also, Lamar seems to be very interested in having good roads for Union County. Is that enough of a twist for you Sonny? Now, the old bridge on the Blueridge Highway is being fixed and there is money tagged in the new SPLOST for roads and bridge projects which shows how forward thinking our current commissioner is. Sony, I'm glad you got your road fixed. I'm glad it is now safer for All the people in Union County who travel on it, including your wife and you. It is not just your road -- it belongs to ALL the people of Union County and we don't mind that your road gets paved with our tax dollars. We are also glad that the Colwells or whoever benefit form our tax dollars. You seem to be the only one who has a problem with that. Ask anyone in the road department if anyone can sell their vote by getting promised special treatment like paving a road and they will tell you it is exactly the opposite thing that happens under this commissioner. So, your insinuations that people bribe the commish just doesn't hold water. Sonny, you got your road fixed two hours later, after you posted, Great! That's the power of a forum like this. Either that or it is coincidental. Either way, God winked. Way to go road department!!!! Way to go Lamar!!! Way to go God!!!! Sonny's tax-dollar is at work and God smiled on him this day! It sounds like a good ROI for your tax dollar to me. Have a nice Sonny day! Everybody, I hope God is winking at you, too.

I don't believe if you took Lamar's patches and put them end to end you would end up with one hundred miles of roads paved like lamar claims he did. Take away the roads the state did and I can't find any. Where are they? anybody have their road paved? How about making a list on this web and add up the distance. I'm talking about paving with black asphalt like Gooch used to do.

Two items I believe Harold Cook should center on. The expense us taxpayers are carring for nice shirts for the road department and other departments along with jackets for the winter. Second Lamer got in the paper and defended his paving of roads in Suches which has no one living on them to not paving roads in the county where there are residences, which are county roads, where he maintains only part of a county road and wants the owers to pay him 2/3 of the cost to pave it or maintain it.
Harold is going to have to expose Lamar for the type of person he is if he plans to beat him. He will have to play as dirty as Lamar. He needs to expose him for what he is. That is how he beat the former commissioner the first time.
Open records off paving contracts, bids put out,who is gitting all the work for the county. Is the contracts given and billed going to the road stated to GA DOT. Harold needs to ask questions or his supporteers. Remember how you all got him in the first time. It will still work in November.

The adverage voter does not understand millage rates. No since in beating this dead horse anymore, he an't gonna get up. They understand misuse of elected office, corruption, arrogance, conflict of interest, etc. Harold has to center on this. I made a living for years advising political candidates. All won but one. He did not listen. Harold needs to meet with someone in Lamar circle and find out where to look. Trust me someone in it is more than willing to provide the information as long as they feel protected.

Manape - Sounds to me you don't know what you are talking about and talk about me rambling, in my own little world. Those 2 roads, Skeenah was paved in 1978 when I came here and Mulkey gap was paved to the same place where it enters the forest service land. 1993 was 15 years ago and that was in the latter part of gooch's term. For all I disliked about him he paved more roads than anyone, before or since. You could see colwell's crews all over the county, not like now when no one knows where those mysterious hundred miles of roads Lamar paved are. The bridge on old 76 is being paid for by the state so it ain't Lamar. We have to wait and see if Lamar follows through on the sploch projects, he has a bad history of not getting around to the things the money was alloted to. The library comes to mind. I'm glad my and my neighbors road was finally fixed, and I complimented them for the job. I don't want my road paved, there are to many roads in bad shape for me to ask for that, besides it would take away from the beauty to have to widen it. Harold offered me that and I turned him down. I like living on a country road.
God guides every thing I do and say and I am very comfortable with my relationship with my Savior, Thank you.

""Now, the old bridge on the Blueridge Highway is being fixed and there is money tagged in the new SPLOST for roads and bridge projects which shows how forward thinking our current commissioner is.""
The bridge on ole blue ridge is State Money.
$17 million collected for the present splost, only a courthouse addition to show for it.
Where did the money go???

Sonny, my only point is this. I appreciate the leadership in the office of commissioner past and present. It is much better than it used to be, so I for one cannot complain. I don't think Paris misused the road department, as you believe.
Since I have moved back to Union, I have seen the road boys working hard on the county roads, period.
I can't judge you for knowing what you are talking about or not. You have achieved your goal of getting what you wanted. I am happy for you and the people on your road, whoever they are.
Lamar has been fighting to get the bridge on old 76 fixed for a while not. It was delayed due to a turtle habitat. Whether it is state money or county money, it is still our tax money at work. Great the road you live on. You don't own it. We all own it because we all pay taxes. Gravel is great! Enjoy and stress no more.
That's cool. You are welcome. I have no problem with your religion or relationship, opinions, or whatever. It is none of my business.
Peace to all. I hope your Sabbath was great? I hope your Sunday is even better. Have a good week.

I don't worry about how the state spends our tax money they have a multitude of checks and balances on where it goes. We don't have that privilege here. The sole commissioner type of government takes away most of that by denying us our legislative rights at the county level. Lamar wasn't satisfied with all that power, he had to abolish even some of the few checks we had by forming the LLC and making him a even bigger bully where he has more power. I have to agree with bubba we need some accountability with where our taxes went this time. No telling what he is going to do with the new splosh in Jan.

Well, Duh? We all agree with that. What's your point? We have the Q&A in the legal organ, county audits, and the county complies with the requirements of the law. What more do you want? Vote Cook NOT!

If it's like the present splost, there'll be a lot of waste and no accountability.
$17 million and only a courthouse addition, where did the money go??

Evidently the no campaign signs on the DOT right of way applies to everyone but Liemar. According to ape's logic the right of ways belong to all of us since we pay taxes to maintain them. And since I'm a taxpayer I wan't those ugly puke green signs off of my dam property!

Hey Short...APE logic. I like that. I've seen both Cook and Paris signs close to each other. For example, on the Murphy Hwy. It won't be long and the signs will be gone. I'll be glad to see the election pass, too.
