Both my son and my wife have called complaining about deep ruts in Jordan road caused by the downpour about a month ago. Their answer:: "We can't fix it unless it rains" DUH! also we told about a dangerous condition on rogers road just before entrance to Pinehurst subdivision. It lies in the shade and when ever there is ice or snow on the road, cars coming from town go around that last curve and surprise, you go into a skid and end up in the pasture below. My wife being one of them. (8 vehicles that I know about) Their answer to this problem :: They put up a sign on the far end of the road cautioning about soft shoulder. At the beginning of Rogers road they put steel barricades in Harry Colwell's front yard and spent thousands to excavate the banks on two of the curves so the entrance and road to Pinehurst was better looking but they can't put a guard rail on this dangerous curve? This is a good example of not using our tax money where it benefits the most people.

Lamar and the road dept. head , had rather work private roads with no right of way for one of his supporters than do legal maintainance .

Fact is the roads cannot be graded unless it rains, that is unless you want dried washboard lump on the road-asuming you mean dirt roads. We love living at the end of a dirt road and notice that when it gets lumpy at first rain it gets graded. We never call and ask for fear they will think paving is in order. Got caught in the snow coming back from Marietta one night and Fannen county roads were so bad we drove on the median grass to keep from sliding. This changed to well salted easily drivable lanes at the Union County line. Don't lie and don't be petty, our road department is great. Oh, Lord that we might see some good.

Ok wine and cheese you just showed your ignorance. My first job when I got out of the service was working on roads and I left because when it rained we lost work. When you left Fannin county and entered union you were traveling on a state road and thank God Lamar had nothing to do with salting those roads because they show no favorites. By the way we had a ditch down the middle of the road because the road crew never cleans out the ditch and the water was diverted out of the ditch and washed a gully in the middle of the road for about 50 yards. And so much for your theory, two hours after I posted that first thread the road crew was here and fixed the problem. In case you didn't notice it wasn't raining. Why did they fix it so quick?ITS ELECTION TIME!

GHost and Whine,
Lamar is a sorry administrator who takes more than his due and gives less than whats fair. Always has, Thats his nature. If you cared about Union County you would try to get him out of office.

The rain happened over a month ago and they were told about the damage many times (not only by me but all that have to travel up and down the road). nothing was done until I told about it on this site. They did a good job of repairing it when Lamar finally let them come. Lets see when he permits them to put up a barricade to keep people from sliding into the pasture when it snows. The road dept takes the blunt of Lamar's free gifts. You don't think for a minute that they excavated the bank on the curve or put up a barricade in front of Harry Colwells house with out orders from Lamar do you? Those two things had to increase the cost of the road department by at least 50 grand. A huge track backhoe and about 10 men and every dump truck the county owns plus leased trucks worked on that for about two weeks. Talking about the unneeded barricades I see another one on Town creek in front of someones house. I don't know who it is, but I bet Lamar was paying them for something. Put a twist on this Lamar or Manape.

how about this fairplay, your road was washed out and the county came by and fixed it for you they didn't take a poll to see if any non Lamar supporters lived on the road, no they did their job and fixed YOUR road. I'm sure other citizens around our fine county also live on county roads that will also be fixed... look around for just a minute here fairplay do you see anyone b&m because the county fixed your road first ....no... what does that tell you about your current rant thread?

Like most of you Larmar lovers you ignore the facts and then post something that doesn't make any sense.

How bought a little history lesson-- In 1996 under Gooch we had a little hurricane come through here on Oct 2 and did quite a bit of damage. Everyone got out and did their part, county, city, prisoners, even had other states came in and helped. We all worked together and cleaned it up. Fema gave the county over 200 thousand to help but they have certain rules you have to follow. The money was for help with the labor. Gooch took a large chunk and purchased equipment trying to fake the paperwork where it looked like we were leasing it. Fema said "No No" and promptly took 100 thousand out of Union County funds. on Dec 31 Gooch let a contract to Colwell for 130 thousand to clean up after the storm. Colwell sub contracted to Gooch's brother for the Job. Since this was 3 months after the storm and everything was already cleaned up fema was suspicious and they couldn't find any evidence where Gooch's brother did anything they sent a letter to Gooch the sole power in the county that he should initiate an investigation. Guess what? nothing was ever done about it. The ones that were here in 96, did you ever see Gooch's brother out cleaning up? Maybe we should ask him over to clean out the ditches since he retired with our tax money.
