Inside dope from some Alaskans.
I beat the message boards to death already. I have three words to describe Sarah Palin ... HEAP BIG JUJU ... The entire election is on it's ear now. All the talking points, the lines of rhetoric, the whole thing is completely changed. The conversation blew up so fast by the time I was out of bed and heard, it had spread to my personal favorite nerd hangout who's message board is dedicated to a stupid free downloadable game I've been wasting time on for the last 8 years, it's that old, in computer years, in other words it's an obscure sparsely populated place for such a conversation to take place.
I am the only Alaskan member which is always interesting to them so it's well known and they wanted my take on it. The membership there is made up of many europeans and aussies and kiwis and canadians and host of other small nations so you can imagine the conversation getting a little heated with all the Bush baggage attached to the McCain ticket.
I kept my cool though and below is a compilation of my posts sans the euro-creeps snide remarks. (I continuously rub their noses in my Yankee-ness, drives em to foaming at the mouth) There's probably a couple of redundancies as I reinforce my points that won't make sense but I didn't want to assemble all my thoughts in text again today. I bothered to take all the F-words out.

I'll go on record here on one issue, your going to hear a lot of smearing and labeling of Sarah Palin as partisans attempt to use whatever they percieve as flaws in her character to get at McCain. There's a lot more to this woman than meets the eye. I'm certain she'd be a better executive than John McCain and Barrack Obama combined. She's a good political executive, even her one and only scandal/black eye so to speak, involves her staff pressuring the public safety commissioner to get rid of a crappy cop who threatened to shoot her father and beat her sister whom he was married to, tazed his eleven year old stepson, and was caught and released after multiple DWI stops both in personal vehicles and in his state trooper cruiser, without prosecution. My wife and five little kids share a road with that so called 'officer'. He is a disgrace. The trooper took the dirt about her connection to him and the firing of the commish, (who is a decent enough guy) to her most vitriolic political opponent who happily capitalized, sparking a legislative investigation of alleged abuse of power. No one seems to care that the facts bear out that the trooper was drastically out of line on many levels and needed to be fired, and that the public safety commisioner who was fired should have been fired for allowing the man to continue to wear a badge.
This election cycle is going to be painful for Alaskans, and the Democrat party is going to lose a lot of it's base in Alaska as they seek to discredit Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin, before running for governor, resigned from a six figure job she was appointed to by Gov. Frank Murkowski because of a corruption. She said it was a do nothing, no show job designed to shut her up for her criticism of the Alaska Republican Party chairman, who is quite corrupt simply put. She called him out, and then refused the buy off. Frank Murkowski and his attorney general tried to have her fined and essentially went after her. After that, she ran against the incumbent governor, Frank Murkowski (a certain dullard) and defeated him by a huge margin in a primary election. Then she whipped a 2 time former Democrat Governor, Tony Knowles, (also a two term mayor of Anchorage, or maybe three terms) with a whopping 80% of the popular vote. 80% of the Alaskan electorate voted for Sarah Palin, that's what you call a mandate.
She clipped the balls off every good ole boy jerk in this state, totally remade the political landscape in Alaska. She put a hurtin on big oil companies presiding over drastic increases in oil production taxes levied against Exxon, BP, and the rest of them. She also put the boots to big oil for failing to extract known reserves, preventing them from failing to extract the resources in order to avoid poduction taxes. She cornered them, they're damned if they do, and damned if they don't, it kind of cleans up an given entities decision making, they may as well produce what they have cause the axe is falling either way. This packed the states coffers with revenues that exceeded the states annual budget 4 or 5 times over in a single year. Critics said she would drive the producers out,
Her team authored and oversaw the legislative process that resulted in a huge gas pipeline deal that will deliver stranded Alaskan natural gas to the lesser 48 via pipeline, more revenue for Alaska from big oil.
After that she proposed that the state of Alaska rebate it's surging revenues to the people. When the legislature tried to pervert her bill into something ridiculous, she twisted their arms, stuck her knee in their guts, and a knife to their throats, and forced them to deliver the revenue to the population before they had a chance to steal it all for their cronies.
That bill resulted in a windfall for my household that exceeds 23,000 dollars that I will realize in cash next month. That is what Sarah Palin is about, that is a direct benefit to every Alaskan household, not just some corporation, not just to a privleged few It's no welfare check either, we sell the oil to the producers, we get a piece of the pie, period. Especially when we're paying 5 dollars a gallon at the pump for diesel, and still 20% above the national average in energy costs while the state gets fat off big oil. The state has way more money than what could be spent on government in any sane way.
She was integral in the prosecution of a number of Alaskan Republicans on corruption charges levied by the Justice Department. Many legislators and lobbyist and former oil executives are now sitting in prison cells, Federal Prison.
Her eldest son enlisted and entered boot camp on 9.11.07, he's supposedly shipping out for desert duty on september 11 this year. I haven't seen anything to verify that but she hasn't told a lie yet.
This is a gal I share snowmachine trails with, my kids and hers share schools, we use the same roads and shop at the same grocers. Our daughters took gymnastics together. Does anyone really think that anyone outside of partisan hack circles in Alaska wants to send Sarah Palin to DC? I believe no. We can hope that McCain wins and leaves Sarah pulling the strings by way of some unfortunate medical incident, not a comfortable thing to wish for really.
My rant is only a few of the really BIG things Sarah Palin has done for the State of Alaska, by which I mean it's people, and not it's power establishment. Often times I've wondered how long it would be before someone tried to have her murdered for dismantling such a carefully constructed power matrix, she's really blown a lot of peoples hair back since she became governor, and her being selected as a veep demonstrates that.
It's hard to fault people when they don't know what they're talking about. I think we're all in for an eye opener with this VP. I think your looking at a future president, probably the first woman president, whether or not McCain fades out by November. She certainly has the right juju to be a truly great president. I think certain people should read some of the things I wrote about Sarah Palin. I think I and my state were stolen from today by John McCain, we don't want her to go but we like her very much and wish her the very best.
I think Sarah Palin represents positive change, and I've seen her deliver in person, repeatedly. She has more executive experience than Obama and McCain combined. This election, which I couldn't have cared less for this morning, is no longer about McCain or Obama for me, it's about seeing Palin get a toe hold in D.C. For the first time in my entire life I have a genuinely positive hope for national politics. Obama and McCain are definitely not the source of that.
What is scary is that I don't really know how well she'll play to a national set, they've wasted no time going to work turning the screws down on her. I swear the size of the population of the town she was mayor of a few years ago, which happens to be the city I live in, gets lower every time I hear a partisan pundit repeat that line. It's going to be difficult to watch for me. The distortions about her are already stinking up the airwaves.
Above all she's the only person I ever held out hope for going through a national election without getting the slime and stink set in permanently. Who knows, maybe she'll crash and burn and we can keep her here working for us. I immediately said when she proposed the oil revenue energy rebate that I'd really hate to be the poor stupid sap who tried stand in her way, and true to form, the little cretins drug their knuckles back to thier caves and crafted some obscene perversion of the notion, then it went to the state Senate and they molested the bill some more and did their very best to out perform their familiars in the house and created a wonderful abomination of a bill. I blinked, Sarah said no, and they handed her the exact bill she asked for, only they found a way to make it happen fast and not cost much to do, because SHE said to. There are a lot of homes above the arctic circie who are going to get that fuel oil on a barge on time to have it in their tanks before it's fifty below and colder for an 8 month stretch.
I say the same thing now, I'd hate to be poor Democrat sap who has to try and stand before us all and fling nuts like an ape at this woman, this woman is something entirely different than anything that's stirred a breeze in D.C. since long before Hillary started braying in 1991.
Even if McCain loses, Sarah has her 'in' on the national set now. You have no idea what kind of juju this woman is wielding. She OBLITERATED a massive republican power matrix in the state of Alaska, scattered it to the four winds. She is a giant slayer, a destroyer of political pillars, she is a hot chick version of Conan The Barbarian in politics. Her nickname is "Barracuda Sarah". She remade a political landscape that's stood the test of time since before Alaska was a state, as though she were gently curbing a bad habit in one of her basketball players. (former point guard now coach) Her juju is not to be opposed.
