As of today the Old Courthouse, in a most disrespectful manner, informed the LWV's representative that they could no longer have the use of the courthouse for there forum scheduled in less than a week. Wonder who's pulling the strings there..? The forum will now be held October 14th, 6-8pm at the Civic Center. Please pass this information on. Harold Cook has to be out of town that day, but is going to try to be back to attend. It should be an informative evening!

I hope that despite efforts by some, including the "Legal Organ", that this will be a great success.
Local Candidates from both parties have been invited. You would think that all of the Candidates would jump on the opportunity to inform the voters of Union County as to their position on various topics.
The League of Women Voters has sponsored this type of forum in other counties and were very well received.
I believe that Dr. Lee March will be the moderator and all questions must be written down.
We need to be informed voters and know our Candidates!

Let me suggest that if Mr. Paris doesn't show that you have the moderator read questions from Paris's Q&A column and someone else play Paris role and read Paris answer.
THEN--- let the opponent rebut Paris answer with a good, solid, factual reply. Show the uppity Mr. Paris for what he is ...............................a parasite! Living off the good people of Union County

This is the same Bologna that Paris pulled against the republican party when he wouldn't let them use the courthouse for the convention. He sure knows how to turn voters against him. Just like the new courthouse the old court house belongs to the county unless he gave it away with his LLC. That means it belongs to the people not him or his cronies.

The only way to make a difference is to show up Tuesday and let them know that they can't always have things their way! Please attend. Thank you.

Below is an email from the State level LWV. I had the decency to omit the names of the recipients and the name of the sender but it is authentic.
"LWV - GA has asked for our Assistance
If any members of the League are interested in assisting Polly McKinney of LWV Ga at a forum/meet and greet in Blairsville on Tuesday evening 6PM she would be most grateful for the assistance. The event is not without controversy - Norm Cooper of the No. Ga News took great exception to a forum as he was under the mistaken impression it was being put on by one of the candidates. I can assure you that was not the case. A new member of the League, from Blairsville was putting it together in cooperation with the State LWV. For her efforts she has been raked over the proverbial coals.
Polly McKinney, our State of Georgia LWV Representative will be on hand Tuesday evening to introduce the candidates and to talk about the what the League does. The event has become a Meet and Greet versus a Forum because a number of the incumbent candidates declined the invitation. Polly is doing all she can to smooth over the ruffled feathers calling candidates, newspaper editor, etc.
She has asked if our members would be interested assisting at this event by directing people to the correct venue (from the old Courthouse to the Civic Center) and assisting at the Civic Center and perhaps signing up members to form a League in Union County.
If anyone is interested, please show up at the Civic Center in Blairsville - at 5:15PM - with a League Button if you have one - (not a Towns County League button - please) and we can quietly and efficiently direct interested persons into the arena."

I got reliable feedback from the LWV forum last night.
All major candidates from the Republicans were there last night.
Not a single Democrat candidate showed up.
Looks like the donkeys have shunned women voters this year and do not consider them worthy enough to seek their support or of receiving their input.
While most in attendance were supporters of the Repub candidates, this is to be expected as no demos showed up.
The speeches were short, about 5-8 minutes each and each Candidate talked about what they had to offer the people of Union County.
There were a good many independents also in attendance.
A good crowd and a shame the democrat candidates failed to show; a slam in the face to the LWV and to the women of Union County.
When candidates only rely on a sorry paper to get their word out and refuse to meet the people and bring their supporters along, they contribute to the failure of democracy.

Bubba I do not feel I have to go to a debate to get to know who I am voting for. I get to know the person, I do not rely on this forum, the newspaper, or any of that, I do my own research and make up my own mind.

I do to Blessed, But lately I've been looking at the sources of information I use to form an opinion. The NGN is slanted. CNN FOX CBS NBC all try to tell me what I should believe.
Debates tell a lot. The tone of their voice, their facial expression their body language.

I agree and I try to stay away from news during elections because of this, just like I do not read commentary in the Bible because I want to read it and gather my own thoughts. NGN is AWFUL. The problem with the forum for me, is it is not personal. It is a show, I like when they talk to me in a normal setting, I guess what I am trying to say is they are prepared for a debate or forum, I like them when they are not. I am weird!

"I do my own research and make up my own mind."
blessed--I applaud you. I have encouraged all to do the same; and have given info where to get the same data I get so each person can check it out.
One thing I get out of a forum or debate that I can't get from a one on one is I am able to see the person from a distance and by so doing get feedback and impressions and body language I can't get from being one on one.
It's been said body language represents 70% or more of a persons communication. This may explain a lot of the mis-understandings in forums like this one. The same applies to talking on a phone. IN the case of forums like this, the only thing we have to rely on are the words and the inflections we receive from them. IN the case of talking on a phone, it is the persons voice.
By talking one on one, we learn the others personality, we find out real quick if there is a connection on a basic level, and we hear what they tell us they want us to believe. Every time we meet a stranger we make a decision whether or not this person is someone we really want to get to know better or not, and not all of this decision making process comes from talking, it also comes from body language, which some will call aura. Our instincts (which we have trouble sometimes explaining) tell us a lot.
