First of all, I never get the shot. I subscribe to Health magazine and it's one of the few I read cover to cover.
Every year scientist get together to determine what the 3 major flu's will be for the upcoming year. The shot is a combination of those 3 dead flu viruses produced in eggs. (that's why people with egg allergies shouldn't get the shot).
Now this sounds more like a gamble than a meeting of scientist. They are not 100% accurate that the flu's they predict will be the major ones and most definately not the only ones.
That's why you can get a flu shot and still get the flu, you just got the flu that wasn't in the vaccine. Plus you can still get the flu contained in the vaccine the symptoms just won't be as bad.
The flu vaccine that is inhaled is a live virus, unlike the virus in the injection version.

I've never gotten a flu shot and don't plan on ever getting one. I have only had the flu a few times in my life, so to me it just isn't worth it!

I never get it and I am considered high risk because of my age!

I've never had one either and I've only had the flu twice in my whole life. I usually get one cold a year and that's it, evidently my immune system is pretty strong.

I did get a flu shot this year! Back 10 years ago, I was very very sick with the flu. I try to get the flu shot at least every other year. I know it is controversial, but I haven't had the flu since (knock on wood)! Avalanche
