I recently read a copy of the Democratic Party of Union County’s newsletter called “The Democratic View”. (Volume I, Issue IV, Fall 2008).
Of particular interest to me was the letter from the UCDP Chairman. He states that he is “tired of the expression from people who say they support our local Democrats but not the national party”. He later goes on to say, “The time to change this track is now. We must vote, and encourage all like minded people to vote for and elect the Obama/Biden ticket”.
Being from here I have heard that sentiment over the years as well. Both of my late grandparents were very proud, hard working, conservative Democrats. I have no doubt that they would be ashamed and outraged at the way the Democrat party has been hijacked by the “same sex marriage” and “abortion rights” lobbyist, to name a few.
On the cover sheet of “The Democratic View”, it states that “Barack Obama…[has] the policies and the record to bring real change”. What record would that be; his time as a “community organizer”? The real community organizers are our brave men and women who go into harms way and really organize communities.
One other quote that was included in the newsletter that caught my attention was from a lady who stated that she is a Christian and is voting for Barrack Obama. She states that she is a “Pro-lifer” and that she is very aware that war is not pro-life.
The term “Pro-life” and “Pro-choice” is usually taken in the context of meaning either against, or for abortion. Since she has expanded the meaning to include war, her implication being that killing the enemy during war is “not pro-life”, I would argue that I am very much for war if it means protecting the lives of American citizens.
Do people really think that voting Democrat at the county/local level has no effect whatsoever at the state and national level? It has been said that all politics are local. That being said, if every county in Georgia voted as Union County has in the past, electing Democrats to fill offices, wouldn’t that make Georgia a Democrat controlled state? In turn, if every state in America did the same as Georgia wouldn’t that make our country Democrat controlled? How then is it ok to vote Democrat at the local level unless you agree with the Democrat platform?
I know that there are many positions that should be non-partisan, but at the current time most are partisan.
If you truly believe in the Democrat platform and what they stand for then by all means vote Democrat.
I believe that our economy is a very important issue. Even more importantly than that, in my opinion, is our national defense and security. Everything else depends on our ability to go about our lives without living in fear of being attacked. I believe that the best choice for our country is the McCain/Palin ticket.
Victory IS Patriotic!!
