I have belonged to the North Georgia writing club almost since it’s inception and I have enjoyed every meeting and activity we have had. The membership changes a little as people move in and out of the area but the core people remain the same. We have an exceptional poet, a civil war buff, good children book writers, a mystery writer and then there’s me.
I write about anything I think about. I am banned, as is everyone, to discuss or read anything political which I think are some of my best writings but that is a small concession for the fellowship and the wealth of information one is able to gleam from this remarkable group of people.
The reason I first attended was because my oldest son asked me to write about my turkey hunting experiences. I attended a creative writing class in Blue Ridge and the instructor told me she didn’t know a thing about turkeys and she wanted me to start a novel for the purpose of the class. Well for a little over ten years (off and on) I have been researching and working on this novel. A couple of months ago I got my nerve up enough to send it off for someone to read. Truthfully I was afraid they would laugh at my efforts. Well to my surprise they offered to publish it.
Let me tell you it is a hectic and demanding thing to prepare your manuscript for publishing. I have read it over and over and every time I find mistakes. You have to finally just give up and send it on. On the 6th of Nov. (Laurie’s and my 48th wedding anniversary) I completed the design of the cover and they excepted it and told me they started production that same day. In case anyone is interested it is a historical novel about the Calusa Indians in the time period of Ponce De Leon. It is called “The Pot” “Caldron of the Calusa” referring to the community cooking vessel.
The ISBN# is 1-60703-243-0 by Publish America. We are hoping it will be available for Christmas Sonny
