I am wondering if I am the only one noticing that teen driving laws are not being enforced. The new law states that any new driver aged 16 cannot have a passenger under the age of 21 that is not a family member. This is happening on a daily basis. I happen to know the kids and actually know when some of them got their licenses. I, myself, have one out there and hope that the laws are not being broken. I saw one today with a passenger and they actually got their license this morning!!! Why is this being allowed? This law was put into place to protect these children and it also benefits the parents should the unforseen happen and they wreck. I hope that this will make other people start reacting also so that law enforcement will.

I have noticed the same thing braindead. I used to know of some kids who drove by themselves with just a learner's permit and they got away with it because they were children of prominent citizen's.

I'll have to observe whether I have seen any teens breaking the new law. I really haven't noticed. It is a good law for a teen to get more experience before other teens are allowed to ride in the vehicle.
Summerose, not only did the children of public officials get away with driving without a lisense. It was a bunch of us. If you grew up in the country, you were born driving a tractor. Some of us bypassed the learners license stage, since we already knew how to drive. It is different now, one young person I know of met his death while driving down the road while "huffing". My dad let me drive because he knew I was a responsible driver. I did get a lisense, though. Durning one of my summer jobs, the supervisor wouldn't let me drive the truck when he learned I didn't have a drivers license.

I guess it would be hard to enforce, officers can't tell how old someone is without pulling them over first and they can't pull someone over without probable cause. I started driving when I was 11 years old but we lived on a dirt road that had no traffic, and I knew better than to venture out onto the main highway. GA is moving in the right direction, now they need to toughen up on the penalites for young drivers who break the law.

I will say this for the law enforcement here in Union County. I have 3 teens on the road. Well the oldest one is 22. But they search them almost every time their stopped for that "probably cause"...My youngest one who is 17 has been searched over 10 times. Yep! My oldest one was coming back from a Gass tournament last weekend at 3 am and they stopped and searched him too. Now my daughter was going to the Waffle House at 2 am (she's pregnant) and they stopped her for the tag light (the probably cause) but he didn't search her. So, they are pretty much on their tales. They might not enforce the laws of the riders but they are trying to catch all the drugs. And for the record, No drugs were found. Only Tums for heartburn and yes, they took it for analysis (the yellow one)and left the pink and green ones. LOL!

Law enforcement is much better now than it was when I was a teenager. I am glad they have gotten stricter.

Why is it that alot of the kids up here who get DUI's nothing is done to them? Especially the kids of prominent citizen's?

Probably because they don't want their name in the paper for everyone to see it.
