Georgia Presidential Primary moved up to February

Georgia has joined 13 other states holding February fifth presidential primaries in what is shaping up to be a
national primary day.
Governor Perdue signed a bill tuesday moving the 2008
presidential preference primary up a month from March fourth.
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, that makes 14 states that have moved their primaries to February fifth. Another 12 have pending legislation that would either bump their primaries up to early February or would give state officials latitude to do so.
If all pending legislation passes, close to 40 states will hold their 2008 primaries by the end of February. That is early compared to the past. Most of the 2000 presidential primaries were in March.
Other states now with February fifth primaries are: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Idaho, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Utah.
Last week, Florida moved its primary to January 29th,
leapfrogging several others and putting the state behind only the Iowa and Nevada caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. It's also the same day as the South Carolina primary.
