I am voting NO to Splost for the following reasons::
There are too many items listed on the ballot. Most of these items have nothing to do with Education. A lot of the items fall under the catagory for general budget. The School system had a 52% revenue increase in 2006 and with the extra $3.5 million increase in the budget they still spent an extra $4.5 million for year 2006-2007, meaning they spent an extra $8 million above and over the 2005-2006 year. This is NOT wise financial management.
Only 35-40% of sales taxes come from outside the county. 60-65% of sales taxes come from local residents.
The average from sales taxes for the past 5 years was $2,623,521. The average for this splost tax for 5 years would HAVE to be $5,400,000. There's no way Union County can average $5.4 million in revenue from sales taxes the next 5 years, which means property owners are responsible for any shortfall in sales taxes.

Norm made it alot easier for me to vote NO. His bias is really showing through on this one. He is playing detective now, he wants to get personal with whoever put those anti-splost things up in town. He is too ignorant to realize that he attracted more attention to the anti-splost with his so called article. Someone should call him and tell him that they were put up by local democrats.

Ole Norm just hates that anyone would get information from any source other than the BIASED fishwrapper he puts out. He's nothing but a propaganda machine for the local commisar and the School Board. He's the kind of editor that could have worked for Hitler, Stalin, or any of the other criminals of the past and present. If it was the 1800's he would be tarred and feathered and run out of town.

He is too ignorant to realize that he attracted more attention to the anti-splost with his so called article. Someone should call him and tell him that they were put up by local democrats. Also i wouldn't put it past him if he put out that flyer. I don't believe I know anyone that stupid who is against the splost. There are too many good reasons to be against the splost to talk about without resorting to dumb statements. again I will list them. 1-The way the ballot is written, the money can be spent on anything the Schools want to spend it on. 2- There's no way the County can collect $5.4 million a year on that 1 cent tax. The State has already reported that sale tax collection is down statewide. 3-Which leaves property owners footing the bill anyway. 4-This is the only time voters have input on the operation of the School system and need to tell the Board they've had enough of tax increase for a while, since this Board seems NOT to understand the impact increased taxes have had on local residents. 5-The School Board needs to be active in the financial affairs of the School System instead of rubber-stamping everything the Superintendent comes up with. 6-There's nothing on the ballot that would improve Education. and the list could go on and on. VOTE NO TO SPLOST.
