Locally, the problem I have with "fair and minimum taxes" is no one can describe what is fair and minimum. The national FairTax can be modeled.
The thing I like about the FairTax is that it limits government spending because it is economy driven. If the economy is doing well, people buy new cars and other big items. If the economy slows down people stop spending as much, therefore the pot is limited. The problem with income tax is that government looks at it as an unlimited supply of money.
Another issue is government debt. There should also be constraints on debt.

Ape said, "tax is that government looks at it as an unlimited supply of money."
Yes sir mister Ape, they do indeed. A politician needs money he spreads his need. Instead of stealing $500 from one person he steals $1 from 500 people and he has met his need! Who fusses about a dollar?

Our government doesn't care to waste money they will spend 50 bucks for a hammer...multiply that 50 by a million when each department gets their hammer and you gotta go out, get a loan from china or somewhere...that really worries me, we owe foreign countries Trillions...that's Trillions..with a T of dollars, Ron Paul has a good plan to keep all those 50 dollar hammers made in America so our citizens will get to keep the money...sorry guys if I'm rambling, I set up late last night reading some more of those links, over slept, late for work gotta make up 30 minutes this evening,,that being said I'm over my pity party...get us going sometime, I love his fair tax ideal..seems some where last night I read Saxby Chambliss's name in association with my research?

Ron Paul won the Alabama Straw Poll Published on Sunday, August 19, 2007.
Source: Tuscaloosa News TUSCALOOSA - Supporters of Republican presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul dominated the West Alabama Republican Assembly 2007 Presidential Preference Straw Poll held at the Bryant Conference Center Saturday afternoon. Of the 266 votes casts during the poll, Paul claimed 216, landing him an easy victory. Paul’s fans were uproarious. Here’s how the 266 participants in Saturday’s Alabama GOP straw poll fared:
Ron Paul 216 Mitt Romney 14 Duncan Hunter 10 Fred Thompson 9 Rudy Giuliani 7 Mike Huckabee 6 Sam Brownback 2 John McCain 2 Tom Tancredo 0 Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney came in at a distant second with 14 votes.
“Ron Paul believes in freedom and the Constitution, and as a historian it is my sincere opinion that he is the greatest congressman in American history,” said Thomas Woods, an Auburn native whose book, “The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History,” was on the New York Times bestsellers list when it was published in 2004.
Paul supporter Shana Klack, 33, of Vance, nearly echoed Wood’s sentiments.
“Ron Paul is the first person that is willing to stand up for the Constitution,” Klack said. “He’s about a revolution of love and peace.”
“He wants to end the war, bring our troops home, repeal the IRS [Internal Revenue Service], put education back in the hands of the parents and the educators and end the government’s spying on our emails and phone calls,” she said.
In a field of Republican hopefuls that includes former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Arizona Sen. John McCain, the libertarian-leaning Paul remains relatively obscure.
A statewide survey of likely voters taken between July 30 and August 2 found just 1 percent of likely Republican voters reporting they’d choose Paul if the election were held that day.
Former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson led that poll with 31 percent, followed by Giuliani at 26 percent.
McCain had the third strongest following in that poll, 16 percent.
The statewide survey was sponsored by American Research Group Inc. and was compiled from 600 telephone interviews among a random sample of likely Republican voters. The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percent.
No candidates showed up at Saturday’s poll in Tuscaloosa, though campaign representatives for Paul and Romney were in attendance.
Claire Austin, director of Romney’s Alabama campaign, said regardless of the election results, she felt it was important that Romney supporters show up so more Alabamians could learn about him.
“Gov. Romney has spent quite a bit of time in Alabama already,” Austin said. “He was here last year and exemplifies Alabama values.”
“He believes in very strong family values and a very strong national defense,” she said. “He’s just a tremendous leader.”
John Killian, who represented the majority of the Paul supporters at the poll, gave the most well-received speech at the event.
It was followed by nearly everyone in the room chanting “Ron Paul.”
“If you don’t want a sovereign nation, but a free nation, then your candidate is Ron Paul!” Killian yelled, his voice booming over the microphone.
Although no supporters for candidates other than Paul and Romney were evident at the gathering, most did still receive a few votes.
California Rep. Duncan Hunter came in third at the straw poll, bagging 10 votes.
Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson had nine votes; former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani came in with seven; former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee had six; Arizona Sen. John McCain and Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback both had two votes; and Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo had zero votes.
DeWayne Fowler, president of the West Alabama Republican Assembly, said he thought more supporters of the other Republican presidential candidates would have shown up at the poll, but he’s not surprised that Paul’s dominated the event.
“We’re not endorsing anybody, but if one candidate wants to energize and mobilize his voters, then more power to him,” Fowler said.
Fowler said 300 people registered for the straw poll in advance, paying $35 a ticket.
But since a large number of people at the event paid at that door, he said he wasn’t sure how much money the poll brought in.

Saxby Chamblis explaining the fair tax.. April 3, 2007
ATLANTA – U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga, and U.S. Reps. John Linder, R-Ga., and Tom Price, R-Ga., today held a FairTax rally and press conference in Atlanta to promote the principles of the FairTax legislation and update supporters about the bill’s status in Congress. Joining them were Ken Hoagland, National Communications Director of Americans for Fair Taxation, businessman Herman Cain and other supporters of the FairTax. The press conference focused on the need for Congress to enact fundamental tax reform legislation. Chambliss re-introduced the legislation in the Senate this past week with Georgia colleague, U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., as one of his cosponsors. “I have heard from many Georgians about the FairTax and I am proud to be the primary sponsor of this legislation in the U.S. Senate,” said Chambliss. “As we have seen and heard today, there is strong grassroots support for the FairTax which would bring fairness and simplicity to our cumbersome and bureaucratic tax code – and that’s what taxpayers deserve.” “I am excited to join my good friend Saxby Chambliss to celebrate his introduction of the FairTax in the Senate,” said Linder. “The progress we have made since first introducing the FairTax is simply amazing. I introduced the House version this year on January 4th with more original co-sponsors than ever before, and the number of co-sponsors in the House has more than doubled in only 3 months. Now we are watching Senator Chambliss introduce the Senate version with 4 original cosponsors. I am confident that congressional support will continue to grow, because the grassroots growth has been phenomenal and it is obvious that Americans are way ahead of the politicians.” “Americans deserve a fair tax code – one that doesn’t require a team of lawyers, tax experts and months of hard work to decipher,” said Price. “The decent American people have been willing to pay more than their fair share despite the obvious and unnecessary complexity of our modern tax system. They should be allowed to take home their entire paycheck and decide for themselves how they wish to save, spend and invest their own money. Decades of tax reforms have done nothing to undo the burden our current system places on the American family. The FairTax, a national retail sales tax would replace the entire income tax system, end the IRS, capture the underground economy and ensure greater economic prosperity for every American.”
