I attended two of the three required school board meetings presided over by Mr. Stephens for the purpose of explaining his budgetary needs. Frankly, I was appalled at his inability to answer simple questions from the audience. His prevailing answer to many queries was "I can't answer that, but I will get back to you." To my knowledge, he has yet to get back to anybody. This school system is wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars under Stephens' inept supervision and we property owners are fed up with it! For example: in a system this small his salary of $141,000 is obscene. Furthermore, I question the need for two assistant superintendents. What can these two men possibly find to do each day that justifies their combined salaries of almost $200,000? Add to these many other unneeded positions in a small system serving only 2700 students. I guess I wouldn't gripe so much if our school system was topnotch both academically and morally but it is neither--not even close.. Yes, we have some good, decent teachers but we desperately need some "new blood" and accountability in Union's schools. More later...

I agree with you Gadfly on this one. When he steps down, his good old boy buddy Mr. R will be wanting his place. Either we have a guy who doesn't know how to run a school system or we have one that views porn on school computers.

Have any of you every been a school superintendant? I didn't think so. I can defend him. I went to school when he was an employee. He is one of the most concerned men you will ever find. If you have a problem with the school he get's right on it and doesn't put you off, regardless of how insignificant it might be.
As for new blood, the problem is teachers can't teach because they are to busy babysitting. Do you have any children in the school system? That's where the new blood problem is, the students and parents.
I am not a teacher or an employee of the Union County government and I took my child out of school and placed her in a private school. Not because of the school or the teachers, because of the students and their parents.

Is it to be used in a postive way?

Just because you grow up knowing someone doesn't make them a good superintendent. There's been plenty of issues swept under the carpet with the school system involving kids. I wish I could afford to put my children in private school. Good for you. But, I will tell you that my children will NOT be mean girls or boys. They are being brought up better than that. I do see a lot of these mean girls with my oldest child, & they are ALL OLD blood, not new.

I am thankful I don't have any children in school. There are too many parents that are not teaching there kids right from wrong! They expect schools and churches to do that but it is there responsibility to do so!

We can't afford it either but we are making due, by doing without. It may be old blood for your kids, but I met the kids and their parents to try and work it out and they are NOT from here. Of course this is middle school and everyone assures me that it smooths out in high school. And girls are more vindictive and sneakier than boys. Ask the juvenile court guy he can tell you.
In one instance I had a mother tell me to let the school handle it. It's not the school's responsibility, it's the parents.

The school audit would tell you how our school tax dollars are being allocated. If everything is on the straight and narrow, than the board should have no problem turning over a copy of the audit.

If it's public record then you should be able to get a copy without requesting it.

Yes ; People ; by law are supposed to have access to all records of any public entity. See how far we have got. No responce at all .These people seem to think they are beyond reproach. In due time we may ask the court to intervene.
