YA'LL TOP THIS ONE! I AM THE FRUGAL QUEEN, I HAVE IT SEWED UP AND IT CANNOT BE TOPPED!!! This is the truth, with my hand up. We had to go to a viewing last night, of course hubby and lilred wanted to eat out. The chioce they gave me was to eat before or after the viewing. Now I was starving to death, cause ya'll know about the diet thing and the red thong, I calculated my finances and told them to wait until after, cause there might be food at the viewing. I WAS RIGHT!! We had frIed chicken, taters & gravy, fried squash, potato salad, sweet tea and about 14 different kind's of desserts. Better than a buffet. I got to calculating and figured that if we hit a funeral on Friday and Saturday nights we could get dressed up anD eat out for just the price of gas. HOW'S THAT FOR FRUGAL? ?

I already have the funeral homes bookmarked. I just have to figure out a non-tacky way of inquiring what will be on the menu?

Honey, let me tell you something about a old fashion, bring home for the viewing, southern funeral.
My grandmother (mema) died March 5th, 1 year ago. She was brought to my aunt's house, for visitation. The family saw her at the funeral home. All the flowers were delivered to the house or the church or the cemetary. Everybody that came to see my mema brought something to eat and drink. They moved the couch and put her right in front of the window.
Now I only know of a few ways your can cook a chicken, but I guarantee you that there was 14 plates of chicken made different ways, fried, cooked, casserole, grilled, bar-b-qued and so on. There was every kind of vegetable you could find in the south and 27 different cakes, multitudes of desserts and puddings and pies. You name it and it was there, 5 big ol' stew pots of chicken n dumplings, turkey, ham, pork chops.
Now they buried mema the next day at her church. She even had a wreath from the mayor and the City of Rhine, Ga, because she had lived there all her life and everybody knew Mrs. Claude Hilliard. She was just a mother, wife and homemaker and occasionally worked outside the home to help out with the monthly bills.
After the service we all met in the church dining hall and there was a whole new buffet laid out, not leftovers from my aunt's house, but fresh cooked food, desserts and drinks.
I have lived in Blairsville most all my life and I have never seen a funeral up here like they have down south.
Most times the body is left at the funeral home and everybody takes food over to the house where everybody gathers. They just happen to have Mrs. Betty at the church for the viewing, because she lived out of town, and everyone brought food to the church dining hall downstairs.

Didn't know anyone from the obits so we had pizza from the gas station. Has to take lilred to Ellijay for clothes and shinguards adn ate at Longhorn's. Ya'll have to go there food is sooo goood.
I had a sald and their French Onion Soup. Lilred had a chopped steak with baked potato and they fry up mini onions adn out them on it.
Because it was our first time there the manager came over to the table 2 times to welcome us and see how we liked it. He also comp-ed us a free dessert when we come back.
Today I made Chicken and Dumplin's and Collard Greens.

Ya'll have my permission to post my frugalness anywhere as long as I get the royalties from it.
As for frugal this week, I tried to get the lady in the tanning bed in front of me to move over so we could share a package but her butt was too big with the cover down.
(ok i made that one up, but it sounded good, didn't it?)
