I turned this in to the newspapers==Ha Ha
Justin vindicated
I feel I should report about the hearing on Justin Melick’s eligibility to run for commissioner. It was a real waste of taxpayers money. It all could have been avoided if Ruth Minor, chairwoman of the election board, had bothered to read the laws on a full time student. You see a full time student is allowed to claim his parents home as his residence. Ruth claimed she was unaware he was a full time student, yet Mel Prime a board member testified he had told Ruth that Justin was a full time student before the hearing and she ignored him.
This all started with Justin’s mother returning mail to the registrars office claiming he didn’t live there anymore. His mother was picking and choosing which letters she thought he should get and seeing he got those and discarding the others. Justin produced mail he received mailed to his mothers address which was mailed before and after her claiming he didn’t live there anymore. Why she said this was a mystery to the board and the audience and she will have to answer that to a higher being than us mortals.
I didn’t hear Ruth apologize to Justin, she made out like it was funny and tried to reprimand Justin because he didn’t call her and inform here about his student status.
This was expensive and it was nothing more than a witch hunt to try and eliminate competition. A lawyer for the County, a court reporter, three county employees, and a subpoenaed witness, five board members and a sheriffs officer all wasted their time and our money.
Justin, the gentleman that he is, thanked each witness including his mother when they finished and blew the whole hearing when he produced the law covering his charges and the letters he had received at his mothers address.
I don’t understand why this was handled by the election board to start with. I was always under the impression that we had a board of registrars to certify someone’s residence.
To me this miss use of power illustrates why these boards should not be under the demands of any particular party. Most through out the state are not. Our present commissioner and the late Ralph Twiggs designed our board to be in the power of the ruling party when it should be non partisan.
I’m sure this was embarrassing to Justin but he has a strong faith in our Lord that He would clear things up in the hearing.
I hope this whole incident back fires on who I suspect is behind it. Win or lose we are all better off that a young man with these kinds of morals is brave enough to attempt to run for office because he believes he can help his fellow citizen. It has nothing to do with a desire to vilify anyone. Sonny
