All of a sudden this evening I noticed my hand hurt and I looked down and when looking at my palm, the center part of my pinkie finger is dark purplish and the whole pinkie is really swollen and it hurts. I did not see an entry point at the time but now after having ice on and off for a half hour, I see there is a dark red spot in the center of the swelling. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe scorpion because I was reaching into laundry bins earlier.

It may be a spider. I think that if it were a scorpion you would have noticed it at the time of the sting. Watch it really close if it begins to form a crater it may be a spider bite. Also watch for redness and infection. We are still in the dog days of summer.

thanks for the advice - it's just so weird - never experienced anything like it. We have had a lot of scorpion activity lately so that's why I thought that - I think I'll start surfing the internet for pictures of bites - it really hurts!

 go to your dr. TODAY!!! Sounds just like a brown recluse bite. Hurts like a bee sting, bad one. They'll put you on antibiotics. Try the homopathic things, but I'd be on antibiotics, too. You could be in bad trouble without them if you let it go!

I agree, I got bitten by a brown recluse spider. My finger looked like it was rotting. It hurt and stung for about a year. Go to the doctor as soon as possible!!

I'm also thinking Brown Recluse. They are so common around the area. In any case you really should see a doctor.

Some where on this board, I believe "B" posted it, there is a story with pictures of herbal medicene treatment of a spider bite here in Union County.
Worked better than conventional treatment

thank you thank you thank you for all your concern - still can't figure out what happened - finger is purple but only in the center - no signs of any bites - really hurts - still. I've experienced brown recluse before and I don't think this is it. Can't figure it out - if it persists I will go to the doctor but I'm not a doctor person - I have to be 95% dead to go there! Anyway, I appreciate your concern!

Laurel, you sound like me. I have been to the doctor TWICE in my entire life. Once for the brown recluse bit and I did not go for over a week, cause I did not know what it was!! Hope you get better quick!!

whatever it was, it must not have been brown recluse. I still have a purple finger - now the whole thing is purple on the palm side but not swollen and not as dark - weird. Anyway, I guess whatever it was, it's not that poisonous!

Some bites are painful, but not poison. Just watch it closely and if it gets worse go to the doctor.  |
