Woo Hooo!!! It may not be a big national audience, and it may just be in the "opinion" section, but The West Yellowstone News in Montana chose to print an article I sent them!!! They even printed my query letter! I have already received an email from someone who read the article!
One small step at a time ya'll, just one small step at a time!!
Small step? Nah! This feels GREAT!! Check it out if you want to - westyellowstonenews.com/articles/2007/11/26/opinions/letter1.txt

Thank you all so much for the congrats.
I know it is a small piece in a small paper in a small town, but, to me, just the fact that something I wrote is published is good enough for me. I have learned how difficult it is for someone to get published that hasn't been published before. It's like the old catch 22 - you want to get published but places want known writers, You can't become a known writer if you don't get published. You can't get published because places want known writers ect ect ect.
Right now, I am simply trying to build a portfolio so that I can show someone that yes, I have been published in different places, with different articles in different settings. Hopefully, this will show versatility to a larger, more well known publisher when the time arrives. In the meantime, if a small newspaper publishes something I have written, at least it's something. All things come in time, and who am I to rush things?
Pugs - I assume you are a writer as well? What type of writing do you do? You have already been in print for 14 years? Wow! Any advice? I'm always willing to learn something new or try new things.
As for the rich and famous part, I think that will be a really l o n g way off, but thanks for the encouragement, Bee!
And just to let ya'll know, I told ya'll about it first, before I even called my mama!

Taylor, you must be very excited. Did they send you a copy of the paper like you asked? I love your writings too! Don't take this the wrong way but that dancing baby really creeps me out though. You are so very creative-how about coming up with something to match your writing ability? Just a suggestion.

You do? I don't know why it creeps me out. I love babies and I love dancing. Maybe it has something to do with my subconscience?

Pugs, you must be quite talented. Drawing is not some thing I have ever been able to do, so I guess I chose words to make my pictures!
nataliewood, Sorry the dancing baby bugs you! I have always been someone who like different things, even with my clothes and jewelry! When I was in high school, very straight legged jeans were THE style - I wore the biggest out-of-style bell bottoms I could find! My mother's ring is a big dragon (I was born in the "year of the dragon"). It is quite the conversation starter! But who knows, maybe I'll find another picture that grabs me and change the dancing baby....
Thanks again for all the congrats! I received another email from someone else that had read the article! This is a bit from each of them -
The one from Las Vegas is the author of "Joyland Road - The Entrance" His pen name is R. C. Verneson

nataliewood - I changed the avatar just for you! It's a bit boring, but it will do (that is until I find something I like better!)
