I am not from around here. Although many people think I am. I'm from Miami. I don't consider myself to be one of the Floridiots because I did not come here straight from Florida.
One thing outsiders learn very quickly is that Native Appalachian Americans are very forgiving of there own and not at all forgiving towards outsiders.
I have always felt very accepted, however. The only time I felt a great divide was when I waited tables in Hiawassee. The locals didn't care much for my dry sense of humor. No tips for poor Justin.

Have you waited tables sense then? Maybe some positives to your humor have reflected the goodness it deserves Justin of more recent.. Then again, when I met you, you was polite and quiet but it was a brief meeting, too.

I noticed that too Tony, maybe they don't want anyone to know they are not natives. (Just a thought).

I'm glad you're here ammakat, jump in and join our discussions. Regardless of which side you take you'll be welcomed by most of the people who post here. Well, to start with he let us vote on liquor by the drink sales which was defeated. Then he turns around and agrees to let a state resort sell alcohol at its facility. (From what I hear the resort is no longer coming). He used a firm with a shady history to revalue our property so that he could increase our taxes. He uses county money and personnel to maintain a private road because one of his friends owns land at the end of it. He spent hundreds of thousands of our dollars renovating the courthouse (which was needed, but not to the extent that he did it) and now he sits in a spacious office on the top floor with glass windows overlooking the golf course. He has been accused of falsifying records to cover up his misdoings. (yes I said accused, not convicted) He refused to let the republican party of union county use "his" courthouse for their annual meeting. He is now trying to block the republicans nomination to the election board because it's someone he doesn't like. He formed an LLC to control the county's finances and is not forthcoming as to why he did so. He cost us money by telling a local property owner that it was okay to build a culvert for a creek that ran through the middle of her property only for the state to come along after the work was done and tell the property owner that it was not okay and had to be removed, he sent county employees and equipment in after dark to remove the culvert. While the county was on water restrictions he had two of our firemen and a tanker truck come and water the lawn at "his" courthouse. There's your quick catch up. Sometimeman will be along shortly to add to this.

Justin if you want to come to my house and wait on a table for me I will give you a tip. I think that most of us have been treated unfairly by some newcomers years ago and that's why some locals are like that. I am still treated rude by some people, but the majority of people who move here are nice and you can't jusdge everyone by the actions of another. And that can both ways. Gotta go our dog just went into labor and I will be a grandmother soon.
