Why do those who move here want to tell us how they done it where they came from? And that we (Blairsville) should do it their way? If they are so obstructed by the way Blairsville is, why did they move here in the first place? That is my main complaint with other people moving here. That and the crime rates rising.

I came here for a business opportunity. Didn't want to. I liked the swim/tennis community and the shops close by. I wouldn't want that now after living here. People complain anywhere they go. It's a mentality that some, but not all people here have that everything will stay the same and they don't want to hear anything different. Things change, people change, & times change. Crime rate? Could that be the meth heads?

That and alot of robberies. Most of the arrests now in the papers aren't from this area.

What aggravates me is people who move here and then 6 months after the boredom of quiet nights and nothing to do set's in, they want to change everything.
They don't like the schools, the government, the place itself or us.
But they think we are entitled to what they want. You know, we never had the issues and problems we have now, until the invasion.
Why didn't they move to Helen, Rabun County, Pidgeon Forge or Gatlinburg? They have alcohol, restaurants, malls and stores.
I think because at one point the land was cheaper here than anywhere else.

People moving in and wanting to change things aggravates me too, but when you have growth, as we have lately things have to change to keep up with it.

I am not a native. I moved here to retire and wouldn't want to change a single thing. Well, maybe Walmart but that's a different topic all together.

Why a Wal Mart? I hate Wal Mart stores. People joke about the southerners and Wal Mart. When I go to the stores, I see why. The people look cloned. Women in too tight lyrca purple pants with ratty hair and messy, dirty kids. The men look they haven't had a shower, a shave or a haircut in ages.

Sorry hound dog, but I don't agree with your post! A few people look that way but not everyone!

When I came to Blairsville, people held themselves out a friendly and good-natured. I felt welcomed. Then the crime started. My home was burglarized several times. My Business was robbed. In every case it was local hooligans whose parents were "pillars" of the community. There is a simple solution. When outsiders are considering moving here, tell them up front that they aren't welcome. Then they WILL move to Helen, or Rabun, or Gatlinburg and you won't have to worry about anyone wanting to change anything. Don't pretend to be welcoming. Just be honest up front and let folks know what to expect.

My neighbors moved here and they do know how I feel and they are fine with it. They are both from Florida and agree with me, if they wanted everything the had in Florida they would have stayed. The other set of part-timers from Florida get to come up 2-3 weeks a year and hope to retire soon, and they feel the same way I do. We all get along fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. You can't group all people together and I don't. But people "not from here" have been really rude to me and you know what? I get rude right back at 'em. They have been so use to folks around here native and non-native letting them get away with the smart remarks and snide comments that they feel they are entitled to their opinion and that we are entitled to their opinion. AIN'T SO..... By the way, there are folks who have lived here forever who don't like me, several on this board and you know what I DON'T CARE. It ain't between me and them, it's between me and God.

WOM if you moved here because you love the simple way of life the laid back attitude of the residents, the mountains and you want to be just like us ... welcome.. if you have decided it's to laid back and boring, you don't like the people there's no place to shop or eat, you feel you have to save us from our ignorance, your not going to fit in and feel welcome we are very protective of our own whether they are family or we have adopted them as part of our family... attitude goes a long way up here!

Queenbee and Pugs, I agree with both of you. I love laid back and I am never bored. Who needs to shop when the internet is so handy? I like to cook and most restaurants aren't consistently good, even the ones I like. If I want to buy liquor, Murphy is just a few miles away.
I understand rudeness. I grew up in FL in a small town that is no longer small and there is nothing more annoying than a "newby" who constantly complains about lack of services (street lights, sewers, the schools, the weather), compares where they live now to where they came from, and begins sentences with "In NY (or whatever state they came from) we had _______ or we did it this way or how come you don't _______".
