;D What type of gardens do you have? What flowers, plants and trees do you like or have or want? I LOVE GARDENING! Trying to get some ideas and helpful hints.. Honeybee, I did do the coffee grounds on my azalias. Thanks again.. and yes - You rock.. We went to walmart in Murphy last night. They had a whole section marked half price.. beautiful bulb flowers from .33 cents to 2.47 for a whole pot of beautys, when I asked why they were marked down, the man said that they had been there for a month.. nothing wrong with them but walmart marks them down after being there for a month!

I live way up in the sticks, so I have to have flowers that deer do not like to eat. I have daffodils and forsythia in early spring, iris's, and paperwhite's in late spring, and sweet williams, marigolds, and impatients in the summer. Deer love to eat roses, pansies, and green beans. I found that out the first spring/summer that I lived here. lol!

I have all different kinds of plants and shrubs. I dont know the name of half of them and the other half I cant spell...Wigelia (sp) in pink and red are my showiest shrubs. I have lots of day lilies in different colors. I am about out of the rose business..they take a lot of care and disease has about wiped them out. I would love to try some primroses..I went to a friends house and hers were in full bloom and were beautiful. Hosta's are a shade loving plant and I have loads of them. Just love this time of year when everything starts turning all those different shades of green !!!!

Has anyone tried Irish Spring soap to get rid of the deer? I understand you can shave a few flakes off and put them around the perimeter of your garden. Apparently, the deer don't like it. The deer ate everything in the garden we had before we moved here. I've had good luck at this place, but there have been some deer sightings in the neighborhood lately.
I grow a variety of tomatos. I like to plant a few salad tomato plants as well as the larger varieties. Ive started Tomate supersweet 100 VF, brandywine, better boys, beefmaster, and Roman tomatoes from seeds. United Community bank will be having their traditional tomato give away soon. I'm not sure what kind they are, but the ten or so plants yielded some mighty fine tomatos.
This year, I've planted hybrid spinish, mountain crest, and some more greens. I still picking turnips and greens from last year. We use greens as a cover crop. I till the greens back into the soil when they get too big.

Tiny bubbles, in the grass...lol...
The soap is pretty strong smelling, so it may keep the bunnies out of the veggie garden too. I'm going to pick up a bar and try it too.

You can also put teh bar of soap in a pantyhose adn hang it somewhere.
Also, get some hair clipping and sprinkle around the edge of the beds, because it smells like human scent it should keep them away, it wears off really quick though.
Don't try the moth ball thing for cat's, my cat's just batted them around thinking they were toys.

Fairydust.
Was that your neighgor? I've been looking for my donkey, but I guess it was gone when I was in your neighbor's yard.
Bears are common here. Our neighbors see them, but I haven't seen any here in Bogger Hollar.

I know for sure they have been spotted off of 180 this year..hmm.. they move fast too and cover some ground doing so.. my question is.. do you go as fast as the bear? Seriously tho, I do believe it was indeed a bears tracks too here. I had to make sure it wasnt you because I wanna keep ya from harm and things that go boom boom bang.. ok. I do have Irish Spring soap now and I am going to give my garden that fresh clean scent so the deer will not want my plants too! Thanks again for that tip.

Fairydust.
Lordie no. I can't run faster than a bear. I just try to out run my donkey. I figure the bear will catch the donkey first. I sure miss that donkey. I sure hope that bear didn't catch him. Has your neighbor seen any fresh donkey dodo lately?

I'm not sure why I am reminded of this but we used to get dirt from the river at Plant Donaugh/Atkinson in Atlanta. You could put it in your on your yard and you could get a bunch of tomato plants. The origin of them was questionable though. Yuck! I had rather buy them at the feed store in Murphy and you don't have to guess what kind they are.
Free is good, but if H-bee's rabbits can't produce enough rabbit poop, you can get manure at that place just outside of Blairsville on the Youngharris Hwy. Don't use it straight; it is pretty potent. You can get the mushroom compose, also. You have to take a trailer or truck to get a scoop full, though.
