Looked at this week's local wrapper. A REAL BLAND paper; nothing new, nothing old.
Lamar is saving people tax money, Lamar is God's gift to humanity.
Scott is saving people's lives, Scott is God's gift to the criminals.
No mention of the ex school Supt. Guess the paper thinks he's gone on to be with the Lord.
The city of Blairsvillle, according to the wrapper, is gonna get more money with an "Occupation" tax. If the people of Union are Lucky, the NGN will be found unworthy of calling itself a Newspaper and kicked out of the city.
There's only one thing worth knowing in this week's fishwrapper, where the Trout were stocked.

Thats how conventional media is. Kinda reminds me of see, hear, speak no? ?? what ever the thinks shouldn't be! Because we are not grown up enough to be trusted with the truth. Or the truth is incriminating the wrong people!

Looks like a certain city councilman is making a horses ass out of himself. If he keeps it up he'll be as "loved" as Liemar is.

Excuse me Mr ape bUt perhaps you are thinking of a racial slur spelled different than hokey, which means small town, corn ball, nerdy. You are not a very clever HONKY. Oh, I thought you said honkey as in S.A.W.B. like Neal Bortz. Sorry, I was never clever at spelling, either. It is like a friend from Wales used to say, "It takes a narrow mind just to figure out one way to spell a word." ;D hon·ky or hon·kie also hon·key (hôngk, hng-) n. pl. hon·kies also hon·keys Offensive Slang Used as a disparaging term for a white person. [Possibly blend of Wolof honq, red, pink, of light complexion, and hunky1.]
You meant... hok·ey (hk) adj. hok·i·er, hok·i·est Slang 1. Mawkishly sentimental; corny. 2. Noticeably contrived; artificial. hoki·ly adv. hoki·ness, hokey·ness n. Anyway, I love our little hokey NGN. It's not the Atlanta-Journal-Constipation, but there is not the same crime an fecal matter that goes on in Atlanta. The NGN can be sentimental and corny, I'm glad we are not in the big city where there is more to report on.

I see where the local scribble for the local scrabble wants to create a mythical creature for Union County.
Seeing as how we already have one in the self declared editor, all we need do is come up with a story line about him.(you ain't fooling us Norm, you're not an editor nor a writer).
All we gotta do is add some word lines from everyone to make our creature.
first one:::
A creature resembling a coon, but it could have been a polecat, was seen lurking or scrambling among the woods of Meeks Park today. Some said it was tall and some said it was mighty low to the ground and from these descriptions, no one can be sure if it was 2 footed or 4 footed.
The strange thing about this creature is the scribblings on the ground like it's trying to communicate with a comrade or with us humans. A Scientist was brought in and his decision was "It's all hokey, there's no such creature living in Union County". This Scientist received his degree from the U. Tennessee so no one believed him.
Next a Veterinarian was called in and he said he had never seen such spoor types in his life but was sure that it was all over the County.
Some said there was a strange odor in the woods but others said it came from a dead possum on the highway. Either way it was decided the creature would dine on roadkill tonight.........

Looks like the sorry paper is not getting the clues about their sorry ways.
What they need is a protest by the community. Cooper and West don't have any ethics.
The Community needs to show what they think by staging a protest in the form of returning papers to the front door of their building. All one has to do is drive by and dump their paper on the doorstep.
what say ye??

Another idea is to call all the Advertisers in the paper and tell them you are fed up with the bias and ethics of the paper, the same thing Paris and West(West owns the paper and is ultimately responsible) did with Ingles. Let the Advertisers know you won't buy their products as long as their ads appear in the paper.

Ethics define socially acceptable behaviors.
If you don't like the NGN, why do you bother reading it, Bubba?
What is socially unacceptable about the NGN? I followed your suggestion though and I will protest in November. Thanks for your suggestion, as follows:
I let you and Mr. Cook know that I will not buy his idea that numbers that describe per capita taxes are relevant and I will check the little Icons in November and the one I check for Commissioner won't be for Mr. Cook. Sorry, I think he is an honest man, but he is ill advised.

Actually, per capita comparisons have value, that's why it was invented. Dick Bell, himself used averages, which is essentially the same thing. Union County's property values are so much higher than most any of the other county's that we can afford to have a low millage rate and still bring in a lot more money than the other county's of comparable size. The simplest way to demonstrate this fact is using per capita comparisons. And that comparison is very powerful in enlightening citizens and that is why the Paris people are so hot and bothered. After all, how often has Norm ever given up his column space?
And any way you want to define ethics, leaking a candidate's paid ad before publication is wrong! Then broadcasting that you were a party to the leak, by attacking that ad in the same issue is shall we say......well, stupid.
Those who have ears, let them hear...

I wish I could say I am surprised Union County folks are not outraged by their money being spent by Lamar's LLC.
I am surprised by the outrage about the paper showing the ad and publishing a letter. But, I'll take any and all the outrage I can get. Lamar has to go.

That's right, J-Man. Per capita comparisons were invented by local Republicans in an attempt to confuse voters. That is shall we say......well, stupid. It backfired big time, my friend.
Per capita comparisons have value and explains why the cost of government increased since Cook was in charge. That confirms to me that Mr. Cook is out of touch with today's economic reality.
The fact that Union County grew so much more over the past seven years help explain why more money is needed to balance the budget due to increased costs of government. After all, if there are more people in the county, one might expect there to be more crime, the need to hire more judges, the need to expand the courthouse, and need for other services due to increased demand (all at higher costs). This is how the incumbent commissioner explained why Cook can't decrease taxes by $500,000 per year.
County Talk By Lamar Paris - Commissioner
Questions Sept 10, 2008 – Finances (con’t from last week)
Q. Why can’t the county maintain or lower property taxes every year? A. Because the cost of government increases disproportionately with the increase in population. The more we grow the more services that are required. Many of the items required by government have increased much more than the cost of living. We all know how much gas and diesel fuel has increased, but check these numbers on asphalt. In November of 2007 (10 months ago) asphalt cost $54.30 per ton. In March of 2008, it cost $59.80 per ton. In April it was $63.30. Three weeks ago it increased to $80 and today it cost $93 per ton! A typical one mile road resurfacing 1 1/2” thick requires 733 tons. The cost increase to resurface one mile of existing road has increased $30,000 in less than twelve months!!!! If it is a new asphalt road, you can double that amount to $60,000. This does not even include the cost of hauling and lay down.

The price of asphalt? Don"t have to worry about those costs, unless it was used to pave that 100 miles no one can find.

One Question for Ape-- How many tons of asphalt has Union County purchased that was actually laid down on roads inside Union County borders?
The asphalt price increase excuse presented by Lamar was stupid.
Lamar's governmental management skills remind me of the Federal Highway Administration. Those S.O.B."s have robbed the Highway Trust Fund and now are putting forth the answer to the problems they have caused as: We should "Sell the roads" to foreign investors, who will then turn them into toll roads!!!
This would leave the taxpayer to have to directly pay to ride on his own dam road, which he has already paid for with the tax on his motor fuel.
The spirit of God has been with drawn from these men and we are left with examples of reasoning such as this! And Ape and Paris' stupidity!
When God's spirit no longer has a home inside you, you become a fool. America is governed by fools!

One more thing about per capita Ape Divide your Bud Lamar's county crime enforcement budget by the number of criminals arrested. Whats the per capita cost for each arrest?
