Pay attention, J-boy. Why do you keep talking about per capita comparisons? I'm talking about "PER PERSON" statistics on Mr. Cook's website.
population X taxes per person = taxes for the year. 17902 X $134.76 = $2,412,473.52 (the taxes for 2000) 21500 X $300.16 = $6,453,440.00 (the taxes for 2007)
By introducing a completely different data set of total population, you introduced another data set into the data set of tax payers.
Also, it is the repubs who run over the people, not Chuck. Chuck H. is a well respected Republican in the community and a great patriot. He has never run over me, personally.
At least I know how to spell argument. I am only repeating what the Commissioner said in his Q&A's where he says the costs of government increased by $4,170,000.00.
All the republican party has to do is PROVE his arguments for increased costs of government in Union County are WRONG. Also, if Harold Cook can do better in today's economic climate, and he can reduce the budget by $500,000 as year as he has done in the past, then, please share his plan with us! You had better hurray. You only have until November 4, 2008.
The Commissioner gave the reason for over $ 4-M budget costs increases as summarized in the table, below. I can tell you this SMART MAN, if HC can by some magic decrease the budget by $2-M for the next 4-years without loss of essential services like ambulance service, judical budget, and public safety...we will elect HC so fast it will make your head swim. But we realize HC is only dreaming about the past.
Cost Increases since 2001.......Current Amount Ambulance Service.................$500,000.00 Judicial Budget.......................$670,000.00 Public Safety...........................$3,000,000.00 Total Cost Increases ...............$4,170,000.00
For you who have attention deification disorder (an embodiment of the qualities of a god to the degree that you do not listen to us mere mortals) or just plain missed the memo here are the commissioner's comments...
Q. A couple of weeks ago you explained why the county was paying $500,000 per year for the ambulance service, but can you explain some of the other cost increases the county has had to deal with? A. Since I took office in 2001, the judicial budget has increased by $670,000. This includes the Judges, District Attorney and Public Defender’s office. We are a part of the four county Enotah Judicial Circuit.(Union, Towns, White & Lumpkin) This is an area of government that we have very limited control of and is an item that must be funded year after year. The larger the population, the more criminals we have, which requires additional staff and judges. This is a necessary cost that helps provide and enhance public safety. It takes slightly over ½ mil of property taxes to cover this cost.

MANBOY,
"Per Person" and "Per Capita" is the same thing! Although, I am all for not using fancy phrases.
The chart is too vague for people to be able to relate to. All they see is a large budgetary growth in two departments and the ambulance service we now have to pay for.
The Republicans do not run over anyone. And I am glad you reversed your position on Chuck. The truth is that the Republican Party has been run over for years in this county, but you do not hear me whining about it.
I am just offering suggestions. You can shrug me off as an uninformed, dumb Republican troublemaker if you trully believe everything is perfect at the courthouse right now. And more than likely he can win without changing the "give nothing up and kill a fly with a cannon" strategy. He is afterall good at winning elections. He needs no advice from me or you. But is winning at all costs worth it? Or wouldn't he like to trully take the high road?

Winning at all cost is not worth it to me. As for who takes the high road, we shall see on November 4, 2008. Man, this is exciting.
Dittos on the nice "Paid Political Advertisement" in the North Georgia News on Sep 10, 2008. I especially like, "With God's ever kind help, Union County's brightest and most prosperous days are ahead." It almost sounds like Ronald Reagan speaking. Pass the collection plate. That's my two cents.

""Manape, my friend, you are indeed one of the hot and bothered ones.""
When you stick a pig with the tool of death, they squeal. When you stick a lying politician and his supporters with the truth, they squeal also.
And they will continue to squeal LOUDLY, because they know the per captia (i.e., per person) data is correct and they try to twist it in their favor but they fail, and with failure they denounce a verifiable form of data EVERY government uses EXCEPT the commisars government.
Harold is the HONEST one here with his assessments of the tax situation in the County. Harold is the one who knows that taxes have increase un-necessarily for property owners.
The commisar and his supporters have been squealing for 3 weeks in the sorry rag called a newspaper. They are afraid Harold's message is getting out to the voters so they are putting their lies in the paper every chance they get. And then they come in here and try to convince the ones who know better their lies are real.

""Harold believes what he says, and I think Mr. Paris and Mr. Bell believe what they say.""
I believe Harold, I don't believe the other 2 because the numbers don't back them up. The numbers are saying they lie.
Harold is doing the right thing taking the TAX ISSUE to the public, something Tony Dyer and Gene Nelson should have done. If Tony or Gene had done so, one of them would be running against Harold.

""It was due to the costs increases due to more crime and other costs the Commissioner has explained.""
Just more of apes repetitive lies. He only echos the commisars lies.

""I think it is a disagreement on how to interpret the numbers. It has always been my experience that those who are quick to call others liars, are in fact liars themselves.""
In this u r wrong Justin, on both accounts.
If per person taxes go from average for Union County to 43rd in the State, the only disagreement people can have is over the "why", not over the number itself, numbers don't lie, people do.
and the second part of your statement may apply to school boys, but in the real world most men will only do so when provided with proof of documentation.
The guilty will squeal the loudest!!

Speaking of numbers, whats the answer to the $ cost per arrest for the "criminal" element in Union County, that Commissioner Paris spends so much of our hard earned money attempting to control? No one can get the numbers sometimer because the Sheriff does NOT report to the GBI.

I said QUICK to call someone a liar. The Paris campaign has used the L word quite a bit. But politicians and lies tend to go together. Especially ones that have been in there for a while. Some of them tell outright lies and know it, others fool themselves into believing what they say.
bubba, like shortcircuit, eddie, and many others were not quick to say "liar" as like many they at one time supported the current commissioner. Their opinion was formed gradually.
I think people like Manape are blinded by love for their man, and by pride after having adamantly held the same position for so long.

That's my two cents. Thanks! If it hadn't been paid for it wouldn't have run. Norm doesn't give me or any Republicans free space. And he still buried it in the back as usual. Yes, the spirit of Ronald Reagan has descended on Union County! Can feel the optimism and the scent of an upcoming Republican victory which will usher in a time of peace, prosperity and fairness. The Democratic power structure is deathly afraid that once Republicans take power in Union County that they will treat the Democrats as the Democrats have treated the Republicans all these years. They need not fear, we Republicans are cut from a different cloth. We will leave justice to God.

viewpoint from the local outhouse wiper::
"Setting record straight about the jail Thank you Tommy Hollbrooks for setting the record straight about the jail. It is refresh-ing to know that our jail is being run properly. I had wondered myself about why you didn't make every prisioner work. Now we know."
ole tommy boy better hope Jones don't get elected, especially if he has kids.

and to show the stupidity of coon man, he prints (so he says) viewpoints from the monkeys running the zoo down at the ole jailhouse.
"Former inmate speaks out Please do not use my name with this, be-cause I have family here. I was arrested and had to spend time in the jail. It is not a torture camp but neither is it a hotel. None of us were allowed to lay inside the jail and smoke ciga-rettes all day. Just thought you'd like to know."
he must be about ready to break his parole and think he's gonna get special treatment (by backing ole tommy boy) if he gets sent back to jail.
