Yeah, I know. Sometimeman has told me the same thing but I figure I'm talking to a dead big Big Foot that Dyer and that Clayton county policeman had showing a picture of him in a freezer.

Lamar Paris with the very same way of running government as the democrats at the national level, i.e.(high taxation, more regulation, in your face government, wasteful spending on non-government entities, etc.).
I'm looking for the Dime's worth of difference between Paris and the National democrats and don't even see daylight.

Manape: No, I talking about Harold Cooks quote, as follows:

In the year 2000, the last year I was in office, we collected $2,412,517 and the Mill Rate was 4.80%. The first year Paris was in office he raised the mill rate to 5.30% and he collected $3,184,892; which was a 32% increase.

I'm still researching this one bubba, but (no pun intended) what you see above is a classic example of a Republican truth decay. What Mr. Cook (or his webmaster) said is technically correct. However, the word on the street is he forgot to mention that the jail was under funded, and taxes had to be raised to meet the obligation of the county to finish it.


As for this forum, how can you tell when extreme conservatives are saying something in jest or when they are saying something ridiculous with a hilarious though somewhat sad earnestness? When many proclaim to be on that side honestly believe the government is behind 9/11. Some complain because the county maintains their road (CR). Others complain because the county fixes their road (Sonny Old Boyer). How can you tell when they're joking about something or boldface lying?

Well, if you're gonna go around looking in the gutters and crevices of streets you can find a lot about the commisar so why don't you post that data also.

I happen to believe Cook about the Jail funding. It was within budget guidelines when Paris took office and within the first year was all of a sudden over-budget several hundred thousands.

Also the Jail was a splost project and should NOT have required property tax money to complete. If indeed property tax money was used by this commisar, it confirms (although no confirmation is is needed with me) the mis-management of this commisar and his inability to function as a manager of County affairs.

The more I find out about this commisar, the more I see a slick politician who slips and slides among the voters with promises of doing wonders for the community but fails to explain where the money goes.

All y'all got to complain about Cook is the Jail, and he was on time and on budget with that item until Paris took office.

And since you don't post the data, I will.

Hundreds of thousands for GPS for golf carts and a GIS package that could be had for a 1/10 of what the commisar paid.

Hundreds of thousands for over-paying for County land.

Credit cards for County Employees.

Eliminating the County Purchasing Department thereby eliminating accountability.

Broken promises of a Library addition with the present splost. where did the money go?

Broken promises of a Multi-use bldg with the present splost. where did the money go?

Giving in to special interest in order to get votes.

etc., etc., etc.

And the REAL reason Paris had to raise taxes in 2001 is because he paid $1 million for the Elliott property and financed it for 10 years which raised the price 1/4 of a million dollars.

With payments of over 100 hundred thousand a year, this money comes directly out of property tax, no splost funds used.

Also, the underhanded way the commisar took away the voters right to have a say in the matter by creating his Finance Corporation and never mentioning a vote on the matter.

This Finance Corporation alone is reason enough to vote Paris out of office.

Another thing about this Finance Corporation::

With creation of this Corporation, all duties of an elected official is passed on to the Corporation.
This means the Corporation can perform buying, selling, making contracts, etc. Perform duties normally the duty of the Commissioner with the exception there is NO accountability to the tax-payers and NO duty to abide by the Laws of the State of Georgia in reporting to the people.

This my friend is Totalitarianism and most of the people either don't know or don't care.
