APE WHAT ARE YOU IMPLYING? EMINENT DOMAIN has become an excuse for sealing land from private citizens? That sounds like a Paris thing to me, not COOK. Thats what you say in one sentence, then in the next you state:"
"Harold Cook is an honest man. I have never heard anyone say any thing to the contrary. I believe he has been ill advised. Any fool can prove anything with numbers."

I'm confused. Do you think Harold is Honest, and Paris isn't? I can think of quite a few eminent domain purchases (Or Stolen) land from private citizens, by PARIS.

That was a great ad by Justin Melick this week. That will do more good for Harold than anything else. Everyone is talking about it. It should be run again next week. Lamar tried to trot out Dicky Bell to match Harold's 'celebrity' endorsement, but it backfired.

RM, be not confused. Evidently you weren't paying attention. I was responding to shorty's comments below when he said Harold Cook would build a new bridge and use EMINENT DOMAIN to force a citizen of Union County to sell their property for another bridge on the south side of the existing one.

So ape, why was the use of eminent domain okay against the people who lost their property needlessly so the airport could have a better "line of sight"? Maybe it was because those people didn't have those lime green reelect Pare-ass signs in their yards? Have you asked the 100 or so homeowners and the 25 or so business owners on the Blue Ridge Hwy what they thought about using eminent domain to protect their businesses? I didn't think so. Don't get me wrong, I'm mostly against it myself but how much could it hurt for somebody to give up maybe 1/2 acre of land out of 50-60 to help the needs of the public.

Thanks Justin. I attended the Cook Rally. Your speech was simply great.

Harold's speech was absolutely Harold. I have some excerts from his speech.

My name is Harold Cook, and as most of you know I am running for county Commissioner. Let me just say up front…and this might come as a shock to some of you…I am not much on giving speeches…but I am for delivering results though…In my opinion we have too many slick, fast talking politicians who give a good speech but then do not get the job done for the people. I have been the Commissioner before…And can be again,with your help and support. As some of you probably know…I run a part time business…, this keeps me busy, and also help pay these high property taxes..As a business owner I can clearly see the financial hardship faced by my customers…hard working...every day Union County citizens. And I see that we have a commissioner that does not understand the needs of the average citizen..And one who thinks that the answer to the many families in Union County, who are struggling to make ends meet, is to raise their taxes again..So that he can build a new pro-shop for the golf course..or install GPS units on the golf carts..(I guess Paris thinks that the golfers might get lost.). I am running because I am concerned about the future of our children...grandchildren...and the hard working citizens of this county, who pay their taxes, mind their own business, and try to make an honest living. And all they want is to be left alone…to live their lives as they see fit.

I am a tire man by trade, and yes Paris has made fun of my line of work in the past..Because I guess that it was not glamorous enough for him.. but there are a few things you learn in that line of work..For example, if you have got a leak you had better plug it up quick. Folks we have got a serious money leak here in Union County.. Paris is taxing and spending and borrowing and spending massive amounts of money, and no one knows where most of it goes. We had better plug up that hole in November before the tax payers of this county are taxed into the poor house. Secondly, over inflation can cause a blowout.. In other words the over inflation of our property values to boost tax revenues. While Paris claims to keep the mill rate low, has caused the housing bubble burst to be a lot worse in Union County, than in other small counties in Georgia. Thirdly, when the rubber hits the road, we need a fiscally responsible commissioner in order for our economy to keep rolling. Fourthly, tires need good roads. Paris allocates large amounts of SPLOST money for roads, but we do not see the results. Our county roads have been patched over and over time and again, or neglected all together, instead of being properly maintained. Finally, if a tire just can not be fixed and all it does is spew out hot air, it’s time for it to be replaced..So lets say goodbye PARIS.

Now as I said before, my experience goes beyond being a business owner, as I have served as commissioner before. When I took office, the economic outlook was grave, but four years later, due to sound conservative management, Union County had a million dollar surplus.
While I cut the millage there by cutting taxes. About five hundred thousand dollars a year. Paris has a different outlook than me., however..and that’s why he raised taxes 32%.. the year after he was elected the first time..and 40% the year after he was re-elected..Are you looking forward to what he has in store for us next year. If he is re-elected for the third time..Paris announced his intention to issue bonds in the amount of $15,000,000 so that he can start on some of his SPLOST projects..even though no 2009 SPLOST money has been received yet..and the current SPLOST monies are below what he had expected. In other words Paris is going to borrow $15,000,000 so that he can get started on his pet projects right away..instead of waiting until the funds come in.. Furtheremore, Paris knows that just like with the last SPLOST receipts for the new SPLOST will not begin equal his projections. and he will not be able to complete half of the projects he has promised to all the special interest groups. By the time these groups figure this out, he will already have been re-elected…or so he hopes. Now you can call me old fashioned, but growing up here in Union County has taught me that you do not buy things until you have the money to pay for them..and you do not make promises you can not keep..


Paris also has a different view on how to spend the taxpayer’s money wisely..Many of you know that Paris is third in line to be president..of the Association of County Commissioners. One of his main goals in life, but did you know that Paris travels to these group meetings at fancy resorts or hotels..at the taxpayer’s expense, excluding vehicle expense..hotel and means are all paid for with hard earned tax money. If Paris is going to be traveling outside the county…it should be to benefit the people that pays his salary...like bringing in new jobs or getting grant money for our county. When I was commissioner, I justified every penny and will do so again if you see fit to elect me . As commissioner I worked to bring in new jobs.. and many of the achievements that Paris takes credit for were started on my watch..If I am elected I will work..To cut taxes and bring about economic growth it effects the lives of every day citizens in a positive way and not just the rich developers. I will work tirelessly to bring in new jobs for all our citizens and especially our young people so that they will not have to leave Union County in order to get a good job. In closing I want to ask you to join me in this campaign to return the County Government back to the citizens. In this effort to restore conservative fiscal policies to Union County, in this fight for the future of our county and the future of our children, elect me Harold Cook as your next commissioner…Thank you and may God bless you and may God bless Union County.

The speech by Harold was GREAT and was the truth . That award winning REPORTER must have hid in the womens restroom because I could not find the boy with the coon skin hat . I would love to meet up with the boy and give his hand a good shaking .
