Yep, a good donut store would be nice. The convenience stores used to carry crispy creme but don't any more. I would also like a pizza hut. Dominoes is okay and Downtown Pizza is great for a buffet, but there's nothing like eating in at a pizza hut on a friday night.

Grinds and Glazes is a nice place until we can get Dunkin Donuts or KRISPY KREME! Aww.. Wranger, me and my family ate there every friday night that was available when I was growing up. That was our BIG EVENT of the week persay. When the old one in Murphy was across from Sky City! I will agree with you not only because I can relate to what you said about Pizza Hut.. Downtown is good enough for us and cheap! Affordable!lol! I can not wait till the new deli opens up in town. It is next to the Allison Law office! I love italian food too.. but from what I hear, the man is going to have so many varietys of sandwhiches also.. woo hoo! I have to ask this, how many of you have hot tubs? How many stores do we have that sell hot tubs?lol! We had one.. it ate up lotsa money to be fairly honest but was relaxing.. I do not personally want another one but my husband does someday. There are "simple" retails that could come here I think.. that are not as huge as some that could help us out.. we do need more retail though. I will do what I can and must to provide for my family.. and I am pretty used to shopping clearance racks only wether Ive had money or very little.. and it is a feast or famine days for most who own their own businesses .

It is difficult for small business owners in Blairsville, you have to try to earn a living, but keep your prices low enough to compete with other merchants.
Me and lilred go to Grinds and get hot poppy seed bagels with cream cheese. She get's donut holes and I get to lick the bag when she eats all of them. I guess it's good we don't live any closer cause I could eat one those jokers every morning for breakfast.
I call them Yankee biscuits. ,

You know what would be really cool, is to get a bunch of mom's together with the kids clothes and have a clothes swap. That way you could by-pass the thrift store and know where your clothes are coming from.
They could mark boxes sorted by size and boy or girl, then bring their boxes to the meeting and we could go through them to see what we need. What didn't go could be taken to the thrift store.

Sounds like a good idea. Maybe you should talk to the admin and see if they could help organize and advertise it.

I wish Wal Mart would hurry up and get here! I am going to have to drive 20 miles and leave my tax money in Murphy.

Very much in favor of having a Wal-Mart Supercenter with a gas station. Iwould love to see some of the sales tax money stay in UC. I would love to see some folks be hired to work there. I would like to see money coming from other counties and going into the pockets of local employees as wages. I would like to see folks being able to save money because of the lower prices AND the savings in gas.

the small business world fear wal-mart
people who moved into the mountains have built here by moving the earth off the mountains
so did my people

Small business owners don't necessarily fear wal mart. Businesses like hardwares and grocery stores might have something to worry about but they can compete with wal mart if they price their goods fairly and treat their customers good. But businesses like craft shops and restaurants will benefit from wal mart because of the increased number of people they will bring into our town. If only we could look ahead 5 years into the future we could tell for sure!

Grocery Stores mostly. I think Home Depot will be OK. If Ace has survived this long with Home Depot, I think they can handle a Wal-Mart. I don't know what the fate of the grocery stores will be. Dahlonega only has one little grocery store besides Wal-Marth. The Kroger and Ingles in Dawsonville were significantly hurt by the arrival of the new Wal-Mart there. But they will survive like the Ingles in Murphy. As for the Foodland in Blairsville, they have made it with two chain grocery stores plus a save-a-lot and a slew of dollar stores. I think they can make it with a Wal-Mart in town.
