Well, now I'm hearing from several people that Wal Mart has in fact bought the land on 515 and plans to break ground in the next few weeks. I hope it is true and not another rumor!

That's what Lamar seems to be indicating... That would certainly be a good accomplishment by the commissioner. A Wal-Mart and not in the midddle of town. I wonder how they worked out the alcohol issue though. I've never been in a Wal-Mart that doesn't sell alcohol.

I see what you're saying wranger but there's no way that Lamar could either allow or not allow Wal Mart to build here. I think the 515 location is the perfect place, it's far enough out of town that it won't affect traffic and it is close enough that it isn't a long drive for many of us.

I agree shortcircuit, Hwy. 515 is the perfect place for Walmart!

I wasn't too happy about a WalMart being built here, but I've changed my mind. Yesterday, we went to Home Depot to buy a cheap sander to do a couple of small home projects and some ferns. The cheapest sander we found was $29 and the ferns looked "tired". Later on we drove to WalMart in Murphy and found a sander for $13.88 and healthy ferns. Everytime I try to spend money at our local Home Depot, I wind up going elsewhere.

I don't deal with Home Depot much anymore, it seems like their prices have gotten higher and their employee morale seems to be low for some reason. I do alot of business at ACE, most of the time there is someone asking you if you need help if they see you wandering around with a "lost" look on your face. Tequillasunset, I know exactly what you mean! I go to Wally World with a shopping list and always leave there with several things that weren't on the list, later on I ask myself "Why in the world did I buy that?"

I went there just to look around. I didn't need anything, but I spend $40. I agree about Home depot. They need more cashiers and better service.

The last that I heard is that everything is on track and they plan to break ground this fall. I guess we'll see!

IF we do get a WalMart, I hope that it is managed better than the one in Murphy. After the remodel of that store, the shopping experience improved except for the usual lack of cashiers. However, things are back to normal. Items that I purchase there on my monthly shopping trip to the big blue box have not been in stock my last two visits. That store seems to have major problems with stocking of items. Is this true of most WalMarts now? I haven't been to any other WalMart except for the Murphy store in 3 years.

I go to the Walmart in Dahlonega and the shelves are usually well stocked every time I go. That store isn't as big as the one in Murphy. I like the one in Dahlonega better than the one in Murphy. Seems like wherever you go though they never have enough cashiers!

I like the one in Ellijay, it has wider aisles. And I'm not trying to put anybody down but it seems like the shoppers there are more courteous, at murphy it's not uncommon to see a few people talking in the middle of the aisles and they won't move and let people thru, I've never seen that happen at Ellijay.
