On Saturday afternoon, a report of a down motorcycle on Blood Mountain was received. Fire Rescue was dispatched and responded. Two sheriff’s office patrol units took it upon themselves without being requested to also respond. It had been raining all day and was still raining and dark overcast. A young lady in a small compact car was sitting in the south bound lane of 129 south waiting to make a left turn. Once it was clear, she began to make her left turn. At the same time was a black sheriff’s office patrol car also in the south bound lane traveling at a high rate of speed approaching her. As she began her turn left, the deputy attempted to illegally pass her on the left and struck her car. The impact from this collision spun her car nearly 40 feet, it also demolished the right front of the patrol car. The driver of the car stated that she never saw the patrol car. The Georgia State Patrol found the officer at fault. Once fire rescue arrived on Blood Mountain, they found no motorcycle accident. This is the second black patrol car wrecked. Currently the Sheriff has no written pursuit policy or written policy concerning when an officer may travel at a high rate of speed. Let’s see if this news makes it into the newspaper.

I hope both the woman and the deputy were not injured.

I noticed that Union County (near the top) and White County (way before turner's Corner) were stationed on the mountain on Sunday and were slowing down the motorcycle riders zooming past.
Thanks guy's for looking out for us turtle drivers.
I also hope the drivers of both vehicles were not injured.

Thank God that both parties involved, are OK. Five0, no idea where you got your 411, but the GSP DID NOT write the officer up. It was classified as 'no fault'.

I still don't think the Sheriff is the problem, I think the problem is more with SOME, not all, of the officers being either poorly trained or just plain lazy.

Reading this week’s newspaper, I noticed that one of our possible Sheriff’s candidates house is being foreclosed on. Page 12B, top left corner of the paper in the legal section of the North Georgia News. Doug Loyd owes over $309,000.00 and his house is being sold at the court house the first Tuesday in May. Why would someone quit their job at the sheriff’s office and decide to run for Sheriff when they can’t pay their mortgage? I thought one of the requirements to be a Sheriff is to be able to manage a budget. What makes him think that people will donate money to his campaign when he is defaulting on his mortgage? Does he not know that a Sheriff’s race can cost over $20,000.00. Plus, the fee a candidate has to pay just to be on the ballot is over $1,700.00. Am I missing something here? Is this a joke? I wonder if Chase; the company that holds his mortgage, knows he has money to run for Sheriff but not to pay his mortgage. Call it what you want, but that is DISHONEST! I know this is not the type of person I want as Sheriff. A real man pays his debtors. Let’s not put this person in charge of a $3,000,000.00 sheriff’s office budget.

There was a stabbing a Tan Yard apartments last week also, I don't recall seeing it in the paper, but I may have overlooked it.

I think Doug Loyd is trying to raise money to pay his mortgage not run for sheriff. A friend of mine told me that he heard Doug is broke. Why would you quit your job knowing you are about to lose your house and think you can run for sheriff? How would that look to have a sheriff of a county have his house sold on the court house steps? Would he serve the eviction papers on himself?

I believe this section is “Law Enforcement”, website police. These comments about Doug Loyd are of great concern because they concern the Sheriff’s race which is law enforcement. If you don’t like, why don’t you move on. For myself, I am glad that someone has taken the time to make us aware about Mr. Loyd’s financial problems. I am not glad to hear about it, but he should have taken this into consideration before to entering into the race. It shows a great lack of management skills on his part.

The forum grouping is listed as Law Enforcement, but THIS topic is "Thanks To Union County's Finest". For those of you who are here only to bash Scott, the County & City LE force, and the candidates...why won't ya'll sign up as members and start the appropriate topic(s), instead of ghosting here with the hit and run posts??
